Now in today’s coaching session, you will be learning about how you can have radiant skin and age gracefully. Yay! It’s who doesn’t want that?? I do! How about you?

Listen up!

So we got to understand that our skin… We’re going to start with the skin, okay? We got to understand that our skin is actually an organ. Yes, it covers up our whole body and it’s an organ just like your heart is, just like your lungs are, just like your intestines are, just like your liver is… it’s beating and living all day long, 24/7 whether you’re awake or not. Even while you’re sleeping, your skin is working.

Our skin is like a mirror. It’s the mirror of our internal health. So I just wanted to get that picture in your brains before we continue, okay?

So let’s first talk about skin eruptions. What am I talking about skin eruptions? Well one is acne and the other is eczema. We in the medical profession, can only pretty much prescribe antibiotics for acne. That’s all we’re taught to do, is antibiotic either cream and/or pills. Okay?

There’s a place for all that. I'm not saying that that’s not doable. However, we shouldn’t really think of that as the first place, okay? And then the next thing is eczema.

Eczema is a skin eruption. It’s like a volcanic eruption in your skin that just pops up and then you start scratching, and then it gets infected and then it starts trailing all over your body. We in the medical profession, are super good at giving you steroid creams. Steroid creams work but in a false way.

What do I mean by that?

What I mean is steroid creams remove the eczema skin but they don’t get to the root cause of the eczema skin. I’ve got so many patients that come in and going “I want my eczema cream. I want my steroid creams.” I go, “You know what? They’re not that good for you.” I’ll show you why in a brief example with my fingers.

I want you to think of your skin as having 8 layers (because it does). The first four layers are skin and then it’s this layer, the fifth layer, that starts having blood vessels. It’s either the fifth layer and the fourth layer. It doesn’t matter. The bottom line is, you’ve got skin and then under here is the blood vessels.

The steroid cream is like super good at taking care and removing the eczema problem on the first 3 layers, okay? So you’ve got this layer of skin that looks fresh and clean. So we’re fooled thinking “Wow that steroid cream works! I want more.” But the problem is, when that skin starts itching because we haven’t taken care of the real problem, the internal problem of the eczema.

When that skin layer starts itching, then you scratch it and it’s this layer that has the blood vessel… So we scratch, scratch, scratch and we scratch so much that it’s the blood vessel that starts bleeding. Once our fingernails which is dirty as a toilet bowl, sorry I don’t care how clean you are—our fingers are dirty unless you’re scrubbing for 8 minutes every day before you go out and do anything. What happens is the bacteria gets into the blood and then we start getting an infection.

The problem with steroid creams is they thin our skin and then we’re more susceptible to infection. So please, please, please! Don’t keep on using steroid creams on your eczema problems, okay? Let’s get to the core.

So let’s get to the root cause. Let’s look at the two-part way of having radiant skin. First we need to look at what we’re taking in on the inside and then we need to look at what we’re putting on the outside. This has been all new to me. I had to learn all this because I surely did not learn this in medical school.

So internally… things like micronutrients, like our vitamins or supplements are important. That’s feeding the inside which will show out to the skin.

Water. Are we drinking enough water? It’s so important to be drinking enough water because water cleans our system so that we have good, clean glowing skin.

Macronutrients like are eating good carbohydrates, good proteins, good fats? Those are going to be affecting our skin.

Next is food allergies. If you’ve got a food allergy, if you’re allergic to dairy, if you’re allergic to rice, if you’re allergic to corn—then your body will fight a reaction, will start a reaction, it’ll start a war to get rid of what it’s allergic to and it’ll erupt and you’ll see eruptions in your skin.

Stress. If you’ve got high stress in your life, it’ll mess up your skin and we’ll get pimples. I mean, look. I remember before I would start filming, I'm getting good at this you know… I may not be perfect but I'm a lot better than I was 3 years ago. I remember when I knew I’d had to do filming in front of you guys, I’d start getting like a beard of pimples because I was so freaked out.

So stress can affect our skin. The toxins in our food can affect our skin. Hormone imbalances like our thyroid is so important. Make sure that your thyroid is working correctly with your health practitioner.

Let’s look at our sex hormones. Our sex hormones like at puberty, our sex hormones like our estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are called androgens. During puberty, our androgens go up and that can cause an outbreak of acne.

Another is when we’re working out and exercising. That increases our sex hormones, the androgens and we can have acne breakout. And then for us, women, who are going through menopause, like right now… I can’t wait until it’s over! Our aging skin has less estrogen in it and so we start getting wrinkles and saggy skin.

So hormone imbalances are very key for getting those straightened up to have good skin. And then let’s look at our gut, the absorption rate.

Think of everything that goes from your mouth to the poop hole, called your gastrointestinal system. Your GI track (for short) absorbs all the food that you’re eating. If you’re taking things like non-steroidals like ibuprofen, nurofen or voltaren or diclofenac or all my golly gosh, the pharmaceutical companies have so many different types of non-steroidals out there for pain.

Keep in mind, those non-steroidals are like punching holes in your gut and making you have leaky gut so that can’t absorb your food. Well if you can’t absorb your food, your good nutrients, then guess what? Your body is not being nourished and you will show poor skin.

Also processed foods, terrible. They’ll punch holes into our gut. So make sure you don’t have a leaky gut.

Now let’s look on the outside of our skin. What are we putting on our skin?

Well, you know in medicine, we’ve been using the skin as a form of medicine distribution for a long period of time. For instance, let’s think about a patient with cancer or who’s in pain. We can give them pain patches in the form of fentynol patches where they distribute—put the patch on and it distributes pain throughout your whole body.

So pain patches are very well used in medicine. Also nicotine patches to help you quit smoking. Also women who are suing bio-identical hormones like myself during menopause. That’s one of the ways by putting it on your skin.

So let’s look at what’s happening on our skin externally. Environmentally, we’ve got pollution, we’ve got smog, just landing on our skin. Let’s look at our skin products. Oh my golly gosh was this a brain opener for me.

We’ve got to remember that everything we’ve put on our skin sits on our skin for up to 24 hours until we’ve take the next shower.

So I'm going to talk to you about 5 skin products that I really want you to avoid that I’ve certainly started to avoid after learning about this so that I can coach you on this.

Number one is parabens. Parabens are found in things, like all of our skin products and they lead to breast cancer. So why not avoid them? Who needs breast cancer ladies?

Number two is oxybenzones. Oxybenzones are found in sunblock. So make sure you’re getting your sunblock, get it from a health food store that doesn’t have oxybenzone.

The third is thalates. Now thalates are found in fragrances and thalates are plastic-forming agents. Well why would you want to wrap yourself up in plastic? Why? Of course you don’t want to. You don’t want to but before you listened to me you didn’t know that that was happening. So thalates are to be avoided.

The next is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde releasing agents, remember that. formaldehyde relapsing agents. Those are very carcinogenic. Meaning, they’ll stimulate the production of cancer. If only I would’ve known this in Anatomy class… when I was in medical school, our first year, we are in Anatomy class for one full year and we are exposed to formaldehyde all the time.

So I can't imagine how… no wonder I had such a tough time in Anatomy class. I couldn’t think because I was being toxified with all this formaldehyde releasing agents, while I was learning.

So if you want a list of all the formaldehyde releasing agents, just go to Google and go to the Google list and type in formaldehyde releasing agents. I’d have to be here another 3 hours explaining to you all the different products.

If you want to, go to environmental working group. That’s ewg.org. that’s environmental working group, ewg.org and they are a plethora of information about environmental toxins.

The fifth product that I really want you to stay away from is petroleum-based products. Petroloeum, petrol. Petroleum is a chemical to make gasoline.

Now we know that petroleum is often used in Vaseline and we’re taught as parents to use Vaseline on our kid’s bottoms. Why would we do that?

Because we’re being tricked into thinking that Vaseline is good for the baby’s bottom. But essentially, what we’re doing is we’re putting gasoline on their skin. We’re burning their skin. So avoid Vaseline on babies.

But for ladies out there, it’s so sad for me to tell you that petroleum base is found in ALL of our lipsticks, unless they’re petroleum-free.

So what’s the problem with putting lipstick that’s petroleum base on our lips? Well I don’t know about you but lipstick doesn’t stay on for any longer than an hour. So you’re constantly re-applying. So you’re re-applying and while in between of re-applications, you’re eating your lipstick. Well that lipstick that’s got petroleum in it affects the intestinal lining of your gut so that you can’t absorb minerals and vitamins and nutrients.

So we’re defeating the whole process of eating good food. So avoid petroleum based products especially lipsticks.

Now I have to be honest with you. I just threw away 25. 10, 20, 5 of my lipsticks that I had that I did not get in a health food store because they were petroleum filled.

So I know it can get a little expensive being healthy but it’s worth it. It’s worth the investment. So I want to let you know some other products that have petroleum in it.

One is shampoo, we got conditioners, toothpaste, mouthwash, hair spray, moisturizers, deodorant, nail polish… Now ladies, I have to fess up and be transparent again. I used to get my nails done with that French gel because I just like the look. But that is so toxic for us to be using gels and the acrylics. That’s so toxic and it’s on our skin and… I don’t do those anymore. Just saying, just keeping it real for you guys, okay?

And then perfumes. Make sure your perfumes don’t have any petroleum in them either, okay? Use fresh essence. Essential oils are good for you.

So what is the number one food you should avoid always to have good skin?

I know you know the answer to this. It’s sugar! Yes, sugar! I'm not talking about white sugar. I'm talking about white sugar but I'm also talking about sugar found in fruit, in grains, in alcohol and of course in your candies, in your lollies. When you’re eating your fruits and your grains, make sure you’re eating a good carbohydrate, a good protein, a good fat together because that keeps the blood sugar stable and your insulin stable, okay?

So the reason we want to stay away from sugar is because it accelerates aging.

HELLO?? Sugar ages us. It makes us get old and wrinkly. You want to know how? Well it’s real simple.

Sugar does this process called glycation—don’t worry, I'm not going to test you on this. Glycation is simple. It’s just a sugar molecule and it goes on to your skin and then what it does is that weave that we’ve got in our skin, you know that youths have that’s so nice and tight? What it does is that sugar grabs on to your skin and it relaxes the weave so your skin starts to sag. So you start getting wrinkles and you start looking yucky.

So, sugar ages us. All the more reason for it to be the number one drug to stay away from if you want to have good, clean, vibrant skin and age gracefully.

Now before we land this plane, I want to talk to you about two foods to stay away from to avoid acne because I’ve got so many parents that come in and so many kids that come in and they go, “I need antibiotics for my acne,” or, “I need something for my skin, for my acne.” And sometimes they’re open and sometimes they’re not open to this suggestion but I go, “Would you like to know how to get rid of acne long term?” and I know because I’ve used this on my kids, my teenage daughters.

There are two foods you want to stay away from: one is sugar and the second is dairy. Sugar and dairy. I’ll explain to you why.

Sugar, when we have sugar, it pumps up our blood sugar, okay? And then that pumps up our insulin and insulin is a hormone that also stimulates the elevation of androgen hormones which is our sex hormones. The androgen hormone, the sex hormone that is elevated the most with the sugar is testosterone and testosterone causes acne. A lot of testosterone.

That’s why we see teenage boys with so much… you know, acne. And the teenage girls with so much acne because—even girls have acne, even girls have testosterone. Sorry about that.

And then dairy. All dairy raises your androgen hormones and particular testosterone. That will increase your acne. So two food you want to stay away from to avoid ALL acne, well okay maybe I shouldn’t say “all” you can never say all right?

But 90% is sugar and dairy. Just give it a go, give it a good, good go for a month or two. I know it’s hard but you can do it.

So to recap… You can have radiant skin and age gracefully by 1) paying attention to what you eat internally; 2) what you put on your skin; 3) avoid sugar; and 4) if you want to avoid all acne, at any age, avoid sugar and dairy.

I hope that this coaching session helped you guys out because it totally taught me so much stuff that I didn’t know.

So until next coaching session, let’s go out there and make a difference, let’s love unconditionally and let’s forgive frequently.

I’ll talk to you later. Buh-bye.
