Want to get noticed by recruiters? Follow these simple résumé tips

As we’ve discussed quite a few times in this newsletter, the current job market can be a bit frustrating. With long recruitment processes and a pervasive feeling that one must mass-apply to a variety of open positions to even get a single response, it’s no wonder many job seekers are feeling a little burnt out.

One way to fight back against those negative feelings is to put effort into improving your job application process. From interview prep to cover letter overhauls, there are a number of ways you can increase your confidence about how you are presenting yourself to potential employers.

One of the most important, of course, is your résumé. In her recent article, Forbes contributor and former recruiter Bernadette Joy offered up some key ways to make sure your résumé gets noticed. These tips can help leave a memorable impression and improve your chances of moving on to the next step in the hiring process:

  1. Keep It To One Page: Joy writes that many recruiters can spend 10 seconds or less glancing at a single résumé. By keeping yours to a single page, you can cut out unnecessary details and focus on your biggest accomplishments.?
  2. Ditch The Professional Summary: Kick off your résumé by highlighting your experience and work history, and follow that up with key skills and education information. Oftentimes, professional summaries simply reword information that appears in other sections on the page, and some recruiters tend to overlook them.
  3. Use Shorter Bullets: When outlining your professional achievements, it’s easy to get a little too wordy. But to grab recruiters’ attention, keep things short—no more than two lines per bullet—to ensure clarity and readability.
  4. Employ Impactful Action Words: Writing with strong verbs can make your accomplishments sound more dynamic. Joy recommends swapping out common words like “use” for verbs like “utilize,” “leverage” and “employ.” Mix things up with a variety of words by keeping a thesaurus at the ready and proofreading for boring verbiage.

Want even more hot résumé tips? Joy’s full article dives deeper with more examples of strong action verbs to use, why you should always include a link to your LinkedIn profile and more.

By putting time and effort into your job, delivering high quality work and proving you are a reliable employee who can always be counted on to perform, you can ensure that your boss thinks highly of you and values your contributions to the company.

In his recent story, Forbes senior contributor Jack Kelly writes about the art of managing up. He advises any professional looking to get ahead in their career to start anticipating their manager’s needs, knowing when to offer help when they’re overwhelmed, and to regularly communicate so that you and your boss are on the same page.

“Make sure to align your goals with your boss’ mission,” Kelly writes. “Ask smart questions to better understand your manager’s goal and priorities, so you’ll know what to do.”

In his full story, Kelly offers even more ways to impress your manager, while cautioning against overextending yourself to the point where you are not performing your basic job duties at your highest level. It’s a fascinating balancing act, and well worth a read.

So basically, since Jeffrey Kreutzer is responsible for the insane increase we'll see in the next CPI We need to make cryptocurrency worth 10000x less, in order to make up for the current devaluation of U.S. currency that has taken place. bitcoin needs to be worth only $8 USD per bitcoin by the end of the week so that the $20 in everyone's wallet will truly be closer to the $20 it used to be before Jeff's actions because he was mad that I didnt want to be his roommate. This will save the weather increase due ALOT to cryptocurrency's effect on the weather.

I did like the advice. But it’s definitely interesting to watch the conversations about AI taking over the screenings and resume writing itself. This conversation comes up everyday now on LinkedIn.
