Want To Get Hired? How To Use LinkedIn To Meet Recruiters
I have been writing 4-5 LinkedIn profiles a week lately and I have noticed a pattern. No one knows about this technique that is most effective in meeting recruiters. I have been advising my career counseling clients to try this job search strategy and it is opening doors and allowing for more positive interviews. The strategy is that you need to meet recruiters and hiring managers and they need to meet and be impressed by you.
I learned this strategy myself years ago and have had great success in using it. For example, I have over 3,000 Recruiters and HR Managers that are a part of my LinkedIn network. When I speak to these HR groups, I encourage them to connect. If you connect to me these people will become part of your network and help you as you go through the process I am about to describe.
There are a couple of ways to do this so let us walk through the steps.
How to Meet a Recruiter
2. The names of the certain companies you want to work for
The first step is to go to the LinkedIn search bar on your profile page.
- Type in: Recruiters
- Select : People
- Search
This allows you to see the number of recruiters you know and where they work. To make this strategy more targeted try these two options:
Go to the LinkedIn search bar on your profile page.
- Type in: Recruiter INDUSTRY
- Select : People
- Search
Example: Recruiter Technology
This search brings up numerous people that are recruiters at technology companies.
You can also search a specific company to find recruiters working for that organization. Let’s say you have your eye on Microsoft, or any other company. Here is how to connect with someone there.
Go to the LinkedIn search bar on your profile page.
- Type in: Recruiter COMPANY NAME
- Select : People
- Search
For this example, I used Microsoft as my company. It brought me over 500 recruiters working in all the different parts of the company. I can review them to find the one(s) that fit my job type. At large companies, you’ll find many recruiters so you’ll need to narrow in on finding the person who hires people with your job skills.
What to Do Once You Have the Recruiters Name
Now that you have the name of the recruiter, click on that person’s profile. You often see the three boxes saying: Connect Message More…
Hit Connect.
You will see this box come up.
Here is your opportunity to connect with the recruiter. This is a person who can open the doors to that employer and introduce you to the hiring manager. So carefully craft what you plan to say as you introduce yourself and ask for what you want. You might say something like this:
I’m a bank manager and I see you recruit for Wells Fargo. I’m looking for a new position Bengaluru. Would you have time to chat? I’m available at: 9500523660
Hit: Send Now
Impressing the Hiring Manager
In many cases the recruiter will message you back or call you. If you get the call and do well, the recruiter will arrange for you to meet the hiring manager. Be sure to get the correct spelling of the hiring manager’s name. Then look that person up on LinkedIn and send a note asking to connect. Many hiring managers go to LinkedIn and review a candidate’s profile before they interview them. Make sure your profile is complete with a recent picture and you have done an excellent job presenting yourself there.
If you can find the hiring manager on your own by searching the title and company, good work using your sharp detective skills. Now, you can reach out and introduce yourself. Try asking a question so the person can respond.
Using this technique allows you to find out about key positions often before they are even advertised. Try it—this technique is very effective in helping you to get hired.
