Want to find your life purpose? Here's how...
Have you ever wanted to pursue something you’re deeply passionate about… but you have no idea what the heck that might even be? And you’ve been living the same life for so long it feels damn near impossible to step into something new without having to start all over again?
If so, you’re not alone.
When my client Martha started working with me, her main focus was just to stop feeling like shit all the time. She was overworking to the point of self-destruction. She was non-stop once the work day began, and often logged back on into the late night hours to finish work that never seemed to end. She knew she was on a fast track to diminishing returns (more responsibility, longer hours, and a yearly 3% raise) but she couldn’t get herself to stop reaching for the next milestone. She stacked her overloaded work schedule with extra certifications galore, while struggling to maintain her household to its magazine-like quality. After all, without a purpose, what else is there to do?
Once she believed completely in her own value, not just as an employee but as a whole human being, it was easy for her to discover her path. She stopped overworking. Clocking out right at the 8-hour mark became simple. She started exercising again and taking care of her health. External validation no longer runs the show. Her 9-to-5 is now a vehicle that’ll propel her toward her purposeful life, and she’s grateful to have it. [Link to what Martha’s working on now at the bottom of this article.]
The problem with “finding your purpose” is that you’re so much more focused on what you could lose (your golden handcuffs) than you are on what you can gain (your freedom… your life). And the mere IDEA of having to give up your current lifestyle is so uncomfortable that you subconsciously cannot fathom how it might even be possible to do it.
You’re like a caged animal that’s never known freedom once in its life. Even with the door wide open, you don’t take your chance to escape because it’s the only life you’ve ever known. You don’t have to fear the consequences if you make that choice. Freedom might be lost, but eh ????♀? you never had it anyway.
That might be a fine life for a being without your cognitive ability. They’ve no reason to question why they have the life they have. But you do.
So of course you let every day quietly slip by. Of course you self-medicate with your requisite glass of wine every night to help you chill out at the end of every stressful work day. We, as humans, were never designed to focus on opportunities. We’ve been hardwired through centuries of evolution to be single-minded about our chances for survival. Fear of the unknown has been our primary mode of operating since before we could stand upright on two feet. Well, now we’re not being chased by saber-toothed tigers anymore. Instead, we’re plagued by our reputations - our good standing among our friends and family, the judgment of strangers on the internet, and the everyday threat of going viral for all the wrong reasons.
…or worse, fading into oblivion completely irrelevant to society and humanity as a whole. The threat of risking it all only to become a nobody.
Through many years of trial and error in my own life, and supporting my clients through their journeys, I’ve discovered that in order to find out what you want to do with your life without wasting anymore time, you need to:
ANY decision you make that’s counter to the current life you’re living will be met with opposition. It’s not always outright criticism. Many times it’s the subtle comments from the people you trust the most that’ll make you fall back in line. “You should be realistic about this. Are you sure you want to do this? I don’t think it’s going to work out the way you want it to…” And you’ll get these types of comments the ENTIRE time you’re making moves for yourself. They’re daggers right at the heart of your hopes and expectations and will kill ANY momentum you’ve managed to muster through all the fear. To be ready for that, you need to feel so good about who you are and what you’re about BEFORE you even know wtf you’re gonna do with your life.?
Because the reality is that you and I were born and bred of the same global society. We’ve inherited the need to feel and be safe in every moment. We’ve been conditioned to control our environment to orchestrate that safety to the best of our ability. Untether yourself from your comfortable, KNOWN life, and not only will you be feeling the fear, everyone else around you will too. The incredible thing about being a human though is that all it takes to lead yourself to opportunity and potential is to use the same part of your brain that notices all the bad shit that could happen. ?? It takes practice, but when your focus is on how things *could* work out more so than how they won’t, the weird and fantastic thing is that they usually do. Many people never reach this stage because they let their fear rule their outcomes and are controlled by other people’s opinions about what’s possible for them. But when you’re unfazed by their judgment AND you’re hyper focused on the way things can work out for you, anything is truly possible.

That being said, when nothing’s risked, there’s nothing gained. Which is to say that it won’t be possible to step into a new life where you’re living with direction and purpose if you don’t give up some part of what you’ve already got. That means detaching yourself from the current life you’re living and exploring what your second life will entail. It means giving up your rituals in favor of new habits, cutting off toxic (or just plain unhelpful) relationships, and engaging with the elements of your life with a new lens. It’s very much like completely transforming your body to the degree that your old clothes no longer quite fit you. Your biceps are too big so your old T-shirts are too tight; your waist is smaller so your pants are a little loose. It’s uncomfortable and awkward, but you can see and feel the progress you’ve made. And OH SHIT, when that happens? You’ll be unstoppable.
Obviously, easier said than done. ??
You won’t be able to just go out and pretend you’re this whole new person without getting pummeled by your inner critic, or beating back an onslaught by your own self-doubt. Nevermind the naysayers in your life that subtly (or not so subtly) hope that you’ll fail so they don’t have to question their own choices. And as much as you like to dream about what life could be like on a private island, the truth is that low grade pessimism colors everything you set out to do. So while you may be putting in the work to change your life, you yourself are not changed. And that, my friend, is the reason why nothing you tried before has worked.
That’s why I created the Life Purpose Sonic Boom ?? program. My process?
