Want different results? Try a different approach

If you're a woman in a corporate job feeling the tug to start your own business, but you're stuck in a cycle of familiar routines, it might be time to break free. Transitioning from corporate to entrepreneurship isn't easy, but one thing's for sure: to achieve something new, you must try something different.

  1. Shift your mindset: embrace possibility over predictability - corporate roles often focus on stability, routine, and predictability. However entrepreneurship demands flexibility, resilience and a willingness to take risks. Start by nurturing a growth-oriented mindset. Rather than thinking, "I'm not sure if I can," start asking, "What can I learn from this"? or "How could this open up new opportunities?" Shifting your mindset from security to possibility will be your most powerful first step.
  2. Identify what's holding you back - To transition successfully, it's essential to confront what may be stopping you from making a move. Are you waiting for the "perfect time"? Are you concerned about financial risks or losing stability? Dig deep into these worries and write them down. Acknowledging what holds you back can make you more prepared to address them.
  3. Set new goals and create a roadmap - For many corporate professionals, goal-setting is nothing new. But setting entrepreneurial goals requires a fresh approach. Break your big dream into actionable steps and attach deadlines to each. Ask yourself, "What can I do differently today to move closer to my business dream?" Be specific with each step, from finding a mentor to planning your financial shift or studying your target market.
  4. Expand your skill set - Entrepreneurship often requires a broader range of skills than a single corporate role. Identify what you need to learn, whether it's marketing, finance, networking or sales. Take courses, attend workshops or find a mentor in the field. By building new skills, you increase your confidence and ability to handle the challenges that come with entrepreneurship.
  5. Build your network in new spaces - In the corporate world, your network is often limited to your company or industry. Stepping out to meet other entrepreneurs, especially women who've made similar transitions, will provide both inspiration and practical advice. Attend events, join online groups, or start connecting with like-minded women on Linkedin. New connections bring new ideas and perspectives that can push you closer to your dream.
  6. Take calculated risks - start small if needed - Leaving corporate life may feel daunting. If taking the leap all at once feels overwhelming, consider starting your business as a side project. This "soft launch" allows you to test your idea, gain confidence, and adjust before you're fully committed. Taking incremental steps reduces risk but still leads to change.
  7. Embrace Self-care and Resilience - The path to entrepreneurship can be demanding, and burnout is a real risk. Make time for activities that replenish your energy, and practice resilience-building habits like journaling, meditation, or exercise. Self-care will support you in keeping a strong mindset and staying motivated on the journey to your dream business

Ready to transition? Remember doing the same thing and expecting different results only keeps you in a cycle of dissatisfaction. So try something new, even if it feels uncomfortable. Start with small changes, and let each step lead you closer to the career -- and life -- you truly desire. To learn more, let's chat how I can support you on your journey.
