Listen up, leaders. If you're still playing the short game when it comes to talent, you're setting yourself up for failure. In today's cutthroat business world, finding and keeping top talent isn't just important - it's do or die.
Let me introduce you to the Evergreen Talent? approach. It's not about quick fixes or band-aid solutions. It's about creating an environment where talent doesn't just survive, it thrives.
Think of your organization as a forest. You want it lush, vibrant, and self-sustaining, right?
Here's how you do it:
1. Get your soil right: Your culture is everything. If it's toxic, nothing good will grow.
2. Plant wisely: Stop hiring for skills alone. Look for potential and cultural fit. Skills can be taught, attitude can't.
3. Nourish constantly: Feedback and learning opportunities should be flowing like water and sunlight.
4. Prune when needed: Don't let under performers drag everyone down. Address issues head-on, but with respect.
Now, let's talk ROI.
Because I know that's what you're really interested in. Companies that get this right see:
? Dramatically lower turnover costs
? Skyrocketing productivity and innovation
? A magnetic employer brand that attracts top talent effortlessly and cost effectively
? Customers who stick around because they love your people
Look at companies like Patagonia and Costco. They've got this figured out, and their bottom lines show it.
Ready to transform your talent strategy? Here's your action plan:
1. Take a hard look at your culture. What's helping growth? What's hindering it?
2. Embrace a growth mindset. If you're not learning, you're dying.
3. Create clear career paths. People want to see a future with you.
4. Get real about work-life integration. Your employees have lives. Respect that.
5. Build genuine connections. Strong relationships between leaders and teams aren't nice-to-haves, they're must-haves.
Remember, in the war for talent, the spoils don't go to the biggest or the richest. They go to the smartest. The ones who understand that sustainable success comes from nurturing an evergreen workforce.
So, what's it going to be? Will you keep playing the short game and wonder why you can't hang onto talent? Or are you ready to cultivate an evergreen workforce that grows stronger year after year?
The choice is yours. But in my 25+ years of experience, I can tell you - the smart money's on evergreen.
Don't let your organization wither due to talent shortages or high turnover. Now’s the time to plant the seeds for sustainable growth.

1 个月Thanks, Roberta. I love the nature metaphor as growing talent and growing trees are similar. I'd love to see you expand more on numbers one and two as culture is such a challenging issue for organizations. The growth mindset is so difficult for so many leaders because they don't feel they have the time (or as I say, run out of energy to because it's relegated to the end of the day.) Being the smartest is not always easy. Keep up the great work!
