The poem reflects a struggle: how to instill critical thinking and self-awareness in a world that often prioritizes conformity or superficiality.
Kraka Un Denki
This poem carries a reflection on the act of thinking critically and consciously. The recurring phrase “Kraka Yu Denki” (strengthen your mind) is an appeal, urging individuals to break through mental stagnation, question assumptions, and foster deeper awareness.
I have been inspired by my grandmother's sister with whom I had a deep connection, committing to work towards letting people find a safe environment to challenge their own paradigms. Now 10 years further down the road, and at 50 years in this human experience, I understand that the remainder of my life is to strengthen my own thinking. It's the best I can offer, and if others also strengthen their own thinking that's their choice, it's not my duty nor my goal. I do love to share with and learn from others journeys.
Critical Thinking
the importance of “learning to think,” suggesting that it is an essential skill that many neglect.
The aunt’s question symbolizes an expectation to engage thoughtfully with life. Her inquiry reflects a deeper cultural or moral call to think and help others to think.
My personal lesson is the most basic and simplistic of all. That the teacher has to live the life one wants to teach or preach. So: square back at the roots, change the world by changing your self.
Inaction
The repetition of trying to convey this message for 10 years hints at a societal resistance to or neglect of introspection and critical engagement.
Critical thinking is not always sexy, and self-reflection even less.
Strengthening the Mind is about breaking open rigid beliefs, exploring new perspectives, and expanding one’s understanding. It suggests a transformative process—painful yet necessary.
My aunt’s question is symbolic of wisdom from elders, urging the younger generation to act thoughtfully and deliberately.
Sometimes in the urgency to make others use their critical thinking skills there is a sense of impatience or even despair blended at the lack of progress.
Despite frustration, the commitment to continue urging others toward this mental awakening is strong; so try a new approach: Starting with one's self continuous growth path.
How important is it to engage in discussions about the need for education that goes beyond "traditional western learning" to encourage questioning, creativity, self-empowerment and exploring one's local history, traditions, culture, role models and philosophy?
The piece also speaks to a collective responsibility—“we” must learn to think, highlighting the communal nature of growth and progress.
The poem “Kraka Yu Denki” is a call to action, urging individuals and communities to embrace the transformative power of critical thought. It connects personal growth, communal responsibility, and spiritual guidance into a unified plea for enlightenment and progress. Important however, is that it all starts with "me".
Opening up the mind and heart is a daily process. It requires some investment.
