Walt Disney said, "Loyal customers, they don't just come back, they don't simply recommend you, they insist that their friends do business with you." "Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends." "You don't earn loyalty in a day. You earn loyalty day-by-day."

Working with people in business who want to attract the right prospects and generate more referrals is the core of what we teach at INTEGRITY Institute. Disney’s quote is how to keep referrals coming beyond the initial sales offering.

What are you doing to keep loyal customers loyal?

Mickey Mantle says, “If I knew I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

Mickey Mantle was a childhood hero of mine. I have vivid remembrances of Mantle and Maris chasing Babe Ruth’s home run record in 1961. His passing was a sad time in my life.

I have also experienced sadness with family, business friends, and clients who die too young from poor health habits, things that they can control. I often say, “Without good health we have nothing.”

I exercise six days per week, and have been following a Weight Watcher’s diet since January 26, 2006. Having Mickey Mantle mentor me when I was 11 has done me well. I want to live to 135 and be able to do what I did yesterday, run for two hour in 90-degree temperature. I want you to be there too! Here is a toast to living a long a life full of good health and taking the best care of yourself.

Elon Musk says, "When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor."

In 1994, after 20 years of corporate America as an engineer, I decided to become a salesman selling health insurance to the self-employed. People who love me, professionals who were close to me rolled their eyes at the notion that I could sell health insurance to the self-employed. Those in the know realized the success rate to sell health insurance is one of ten. To this day when I tell people of my work history they say the transition from engineer to selling health insurance is improbable. After two and one-half years I built a book of business with over 400 clients that paid me in residual income for four years so that I could start INTEGRITYSD.COM.

Elon Musk is right! Put the odds against success in your favor by moving forward with what you believe is important enough.

Serena Williams says, “You can be whatever size you are, and you can be beautiful inside and out.”

This quote really hit home for me. As a youngster I was always teased about my height, weight, and large nose and ears. The teasing caused me to be self-conscious and strike back. It affected myself confidence and self-esteem.

I have been blessed to know many who have influenced my life. I remember a short, retired Marine, Ron Erps. In his two-piece gray suit, I can still see him walking down the corridor at Ralston Purina Plant in Dunkirk, New York. His head barely sticking out above his shoulders as I am sure he just made the height requirement for his military service. As he was my boss, I, a young engineer, he approved all of my engineering drawings. During this time, 1977, our drawings were all hand drawn. If there was a mistake he would mark the drawing in red pen such that the drawing needed to be redrawn.

My point, to this day I think of this short, slightly over-weight, no neck, task master with joy. He taught me and many other young professionals the value of doing things right the first time. With his military service and time as a professional I am sure Ron’s size showed that he was beautiful inside and out to many. I hope the same for you!

Dolly Parton says, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

I know of many who go through life marching to someone else’s drum beat. For 20 years I was an engineer because my father saw that I was good with my hands and very analytical. I was steered towards engineering school, earned my Bachelor’s degree, and worked as an engineer until I lost four engineering jobs in a five-year span.

When I looked back on my job interviews when graduating I remembered being offered a sales job. When I asked the hiring company why they offered me a sales job they said, “It was your ability to sell yourself.”

Having now been in the sales and marketing space since 1994, I see myself continuing this career until my Maker chooses to place me in my final horizontal state. I love working with people in business who want to attract the right prospects and generate more referrals. How about you? Do you know who you are and are you doing it on purpose?

Mary Teresa Barra says, “We need to find the opportunity not to do everything, but to do the important things.”

In 2001, as a “Maker of Lists” I was introduced to a system which required me to choose three High Value Activities for each day. Those items included rest, renew, and rejuvenation while also evaluating business needs. That system has changed my life and can change yours. Are you trying to do everything or are you choosing the important things to do today?

Popeye says,

"I yam what I yam an' tha's all I yam"

"That's all I can stands, 'cause I can't stands no more!"

I took these quotes because they spoke to me. I hope they speak to you.

Some days I have felt like, I am what I am and that is all I can stand because I cannot stand anymore! Have you ever or do you ever feel that way?

Today, if ever I go down that road, I stop immediately and ask myself this question, “What can I do to change the way I feel?” Sometimes I meditate while other times I replace negative thoughts with more positive thoughts. In my life I am what I am because I choose to be who I am. Are you choosing how you feel and who you are? Can you stand more? If not, I can help!

Tim Allen (Tim the Tool Man Taylor) says…Monday Morning Mentor Minute from INTEGRITY Institute.

In the season five episode “High School Confidential,” Tim and Jill’s middle son, Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), is allowed to advance into high school because of his exceptional science and math grades. This is great, except Randy doesn’t look like a high school student.

For one thing, he’s shorter than everyone else. When Jill asks how his first day went, Randy says, “Fine, except for the guy who asked if I wanted a phone book to sit on.” Jill responds, “Did you tell the teacher?” Randy finally admits, “It was the teacher.” Poor Randy.

Has (have) your exceptional talent(s) ever gotten in the way of future success? Has a loved one or close friend given you advise saying, “You will fail because you are too…?” Muggsy Bogues, National Basketball legend, was only 5 feet 3 inches when he played professional basketball. All players towered over him at heights above 6 feet. Today is your day to sit on the phone book and leap to your next success.

Marshall Goldsmith tells us in his book titled "What Got You Here Won’t Get You There"...Monday Morning Mentor Minute from INTEGRITY Institute.

Marshall Goldsmith tells us in his book titled What Got You Here Won’t Get You There is change is inevitable if continued success is our goal. The thought, “what got you here won’t get you there” became extremely relevant in 2021 with the onset of COVID-19. How many of us had heard of a Zoom call?  While many in business, with all due respect, spent much of 2021 aching about the business climate, innovators created success. I have been intrigued by the numbers of businesses closing their doors during the pandemic. I hope and pray that those employed and the shop owners find ways to continue to support their families. Yet, with the closures new businesses are sprouting while others are changing to work around the illness.

As we come to the future given to us in 2021, what are you doing to keep your business vibrant. “What got you here won’t get you there” will that be your swan song as you close the doors to your business in 2021 or will you find a new song to lift you to higher highs?

As I was doing research for today’s Monday Morning Mentor Minute I came across “March 15 is True Confessions Day.” The information went on to say, “According to the calendar, March 15 is the perfect day to confess all your deepest, darkest secrets. Good luck!” I then thought, “What might Mike Ditka, NFL Coach/Player for the Chicago Bears have to say.” He said, “You’re never a loser until you quit trying.”

When considering true confessions, we have all failed at something which led us to trying something different. After 20 years as an engineer with three Fortune 500 companies I said to myself, “Why not try selling?” Now with over 20 years invested I work with people in business who want to attract the right prospects and generate more referrals. With a strong faith and good health, I look forward to the next 20. What about you for your next 20 years?

Sacha Baron Cohen says, “I think I think in the moment. So, when I'm in character, I'm in character, and I'm obviously thinking about what's going on around me, but it's easier to do stuff when you're in character.”

When I read this quote I immediately thought of my wife Lynne and an observation she made years ago that she has often shared with me. We lived in a small town, population 3400, with surprisingly quite a number of attorneys. Two in particular were the object of her observation to me. One named Ned was always well groomed, always in his best character. Mike, the other, was often seen around town in old dirty gray sweat cloths. Even when in “character” his hygiene was questionable. When we are small business entrepreneurs I believe it is important to always consider what character we want to portray. Who would you hire, Ned or Mike?

Quote About Giving Back - Denzel Washington. “At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished.” Here is the how and the why we recognize this at INTEGRITY Institute from your Monday Morning Mentor Minute.

We believe there are two places to operate your life from…a place of abundance…a place of scarcity. Those in the scarcity space believe they have too little, everyone else has too much. It could also be the tale of the glass is half empty or half full. For years I would spend hours giving away my business for free expecting a fee. Then I discovered a happy place where I could be paid a reasonable fee for clients who could afford to pay. Today we adjust our fees based on a company’s ability to pay. Thus, some clients pay $50 per hour while others pay $5000 per hour. Once we adopted operating from a place of abundance it became clear that we could accomplish more by giving back to the entrepreneur community at the end of the day.

I would like your opinion. Dale Carnegie, author of How to Win Friends and Influence People said, “A person's name is to him or her the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” I agree. Do you? Read the attached to get a different perspective. What do you think?

Here is why we agree with Dale Carnegie at INTEGRITY Institute from your Monday Morning Mentor Minute.

Recently I received this request on LinkedIn:

Hello Gerry: You have an impressive LinkedIn profile. I think we can work together & send each other clients. We both are in the Business of Helping Businesses but deliver different services. Let's explore the possibilities! Bruce

I have left his sir name off to protect him

After this response from me:

Thanks for your kind words regarding my LinkedIn profile.  How might you suggest we move forward to explore sending each other clients?

He then responded to me by writing to Jordan.

When I responded with:

Sorry Bruce, you addressed me as Jordan. If I am going to refer people to another consultant then they have to at least get their names right. I hope you can find someone that will accept these types of mistakes. Sincerely.

I then disconnected from him on LinkedIn.

I then received this response which shivers me to my core:

“Wow touchie. Gerry. LOL I get so many referrals from more easy going LinkedIn folks Mr. Rose (even if I do get their name wrong to start...since sometimes it happens...).. "Losing," someone who "takes himself WAY too seriously guy," matters not. Actually it is a great filter. However...I do wish you all the best in your up-tightness Sir. : ) Bruce”

What do you think? Do you agree with Bruce or Dale?

Stephen Covey says, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” Here is the how and the why we do it at INTEGRITY Institute from your Monday Morning Mentor Minute.

What Covey speaks of was a lesson we all need to learn to attract the right prospects and generate more referrals. Often, I observe people in day to day conversation listening to the person on the other end of the conversation, yet they are not hearing the meaning of what the other person is saying. Frequently people are constructing an answer before they receive the meaning of what the other person is saying.

To “first understand” we must listen intently hanging on every word the other person says. Then using their words, we feedback what we think we understood. This allows the person sending their message to correct our understanding or agree that we got the message. Thus, we will “be understood.”

Zig Ziglar says, "The Lack of Time is NOT Your Problem!" Here is how it applies to your 4+2 Marketing, Advertising, and Promotion Strategy.

Monday Morning Mentor Minute, INTEGRITY Institute

The INTEGRITY Benchmarking System ? as a part of your 4+2 Marketing, Advertising, and Promotion Strategy manages your time. Each day we wake asking the morning question, “What three high value activities will I do today to realize my optimistic number?” After answering with activities that apply to rest, renew, rejuvenation, or adding financial value to your business you set out your day to complete those three and other tasks of the day. At the end of the work day you ask the evening question, “What three high value activities did I do today to realize my optimistic number?” When you consider a normal work year consisting of 220 days, asking the questions above will yield 660 high value activities each year.
