Walls and Doors

Walls and Doors

Many of us, often as a result of enduring emotional abuse or neglect in childhood, go through our personal and professional lives repeatedly encountering impenetrable walls where others see doors.

Find your door.

Even though the universe you inhabit seems to have forsaken you, get moving. If you simply cannot envisage ever reaching the door, nor envision what it looks like, pretend otherwise. You just might succeed in fooling your brain and transforming it in the process. When in your search you discover that the walls are too sheer to scale, set out to walk around them even though they appear to stretch to infinity. You will certainly be a different person by the time you arrive. When this quest only leads you to more walls, surrounding and ensnaring you, dig a tunnel.

If all else fails, cover the damn thing with dynamite and blast your way through.

  • With acknowledgement of and appreciation for the classic reflections on this subject matter by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Joseph Campbell & Jackson Browne.
