"Wallow in the problem"
Wallow is a funny word. It sounds funny, it's associated with pigs, it's earthy; I like it.
It means to indulge, saturate, cover oneself in a thing. Like pigs rolling the mud on a hot day or me in a hammock on a Sunday afternoon.
At work, sometimes we need to wallow in a problem before we reach a solution.
The natural instinct is to make a snap judgement, be decisive, and take action, especially if the situation is a crisis. This is counterproductive if you don't know the root cause of the problem or haven't fully vetted possible solutions.
It's often better to acknowledge the pressure but then slide yourself neck-deep in the problem for a while to really embrace all its nuance. Feel it. Breathe it. Be one with it....
And then snap out of your dismal reverie and act with conviction! Don't look back and don't second-guess yourself - just go! Be confident.
