In mid-June 2019 Walking With The Wounded North East went Operational. Since then, the team have been working in close partnership with Gateshead Council and Newcastle City Council and the Armed Forces Outreach Service (AFOS). We were soon recruiting our first members of staff and since then we have gone from strength to strength, developing our relationships, reach, and programmes such as our Family Welfare ( Care Coordination ) , Employability and:
Northern Care Coordination Partnership :
Gateshead Council invited Walking With The Wounded to work in partnership, to provide proactive, early intervention support for “at risk” ex-military men and women, specifically targeting those with a desire to learn new skills and secure sustainable employment. Since going operational in June 2019 we have provided support and opportunities to those who have served to help them gain the confidence and skills for independence and a stable life.
As well as our working location at Gateshead Civic Centre, the WWTW North East Service are also working in partnership with MySpace Housing Solutions and have developed a North East Support Service based at the Walker Building in North Shields with access North and South of the Tyne Tunnel. This project created a working partnership Hub that has onsite support for the 10 homeless veterans and, we are also deliver local and regional outreach support to the veteran community in the North East.
On Remembrance Day 2020 we launched our support service in partnership with MySpace Housing Solutions was supported by a number of fantastic corporate organisations who have helped us with aspects of the renovation and upgrade of the location.
To date we have been supported by:
1. The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust
2. MITIE
4. Apleona HSG Facilities Management
5. Dunelm
7. Fortem Cares
9. Bell Group
10. DXC Technology
