Walking Thru The Unknown
Walking thru the unknown is one of the scariest and most uncomfortable journeys we can make. We are leaving a place of comfort, a spot of refuge and safety to walk towards something unknown to us/ There is a spot where we can see no further leading to an area we are unfamiliar. The easiest thing to do is nothing. Save it for another day, another moment in time, and another place where things line up just right. However, the best thing you can do towards your growth and success is to walk thru the unknown.
Many books have been written and even more clever quotes have circulated around strategies designed to walk thru the unknown. A great deal of attention has been placed on how we move from where we are to where we want to go. It is easy to imagine what we want to see. The picture is vivid, the landscape is clear while the path does not seem so apparent. We have been in a place that was foreign to us and the path unclear. We had no idea where we were headed nor have a clue as to what would be on the other side. How did I discover what was in front of me? Simple, I walked thru the unknown until I reached an opening of light. In many instances, we discovered a place of bright lights and a feeling of Yes, I did this. However, we will not know until we took the time and effort to see. So it is with your dreams and goals. You may know what you want to see but the path to get there is full of unknown detours, decisions, directions, and developments. So, how do we gather the necessary courage and drive to walk thru the unknown? What I have found is this...
Move towards the direction you want to go. The first step is critical, challenging, and courageous.
Don't stop moving.
Recognize and prepare for detours.
Accept the detours but don't lose sight of your direction.
Look forward to the unknown without looking at the glass of distractions.
Mentally prepare for the benefits of what is on the other side of the known.
Recognize there will set backs and things designed to test your resolve. Remain focused on the end result.
You are going to want to stop. In a word, Don’t.
You will be fine as you test your ability to walk thru the unknown. The biggest challenge is the inner voice telling you to wait. The time is just right even as you may come up with reasons to delay. The key is to look straight ahead and move one step at a time towards the uncertainty of what is in front of you. The answer to the question is just beyond the place not far ahead where our eyes cannot completely make out. Each step forward bring you closer to visualizing what is actually past the door of darkness as you press thru the challenges of walking thru the unknown.
Today is the day someone is going to say, Yes I am going to do it. They will throw caution in the wind and just go for it. As Matthew McConaughey said in his 2014 acceptance speech upon winning for Best Actor, “All Right All Right All Right.” That is what I say to you as you embark on what will be a scary, stressful, and yes, successful walk. You have got this and nothing is going to stop you this time.
