Walking The Talk When it Comes to AI - Learning AI for Leaders
In this edition of Learning AI for Leaders series I'm suggesting a 10 minute investment with a big return. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq0QkCxoTHM&t=5s

We all know that leadership is as much about walking the talk as it is knowing what to say.?
This recommendation from IBM leader Timi Hadra shared in a recent SHRM article* was particularly relevant: “Foster a culture of upskilling and lifelong learning, including a system to reward and incentivize employees to attain in-demand AI skills.”?
This led me down a bit of a rabbit hole. There’s something wonderful about 33 open tabs in my Google Chrome browzer having me dig deeper. What is company culture? Google is known for exceptional culture but defining culture not in instance but in definition is much harder.??
I appreciated this definition from Better Up: Company culture is the shared values, attitudes, behaviors, and standards that make up a work environment.
You’ll notice I put the word shared in bold above. As a leader are you demonstrating your own living of company Values? It’s a personal standard I’ve set and one I encourage our Google Cloud Consulting team to prioritize. Integrity isn’t something that can be shortcut.?
Organizations are often touting that they value Learning and their People. Certainly the rise of AI is going to require both learning and investment in people.
How is your organization demonstrating that priority? How are you as a leader??
I’m here for the hard questions. Even when we don’t yet know all the answers.?

As individual contributor my best leaders were the ones that were able to comprehend, perhaps not in detail but at a reasonable technical level, what my work entails and were able to have a constructive dialog. This required them to learn about my work, and made me feel supported. When leading teams I do it the same way, learning about the work at hand, and communicating about it without overstepping responsibility boundaries. This avoids diminishing accountability and ownership, to ensure that team members understand their responsibilities, while supporting team members. Being able to ask relevant (technical) questions is critical to team success.
Lee Moore, How do you ensure your organization's investment in learning and people aligns with the demands of AI advancement?
