Walking With God

Both my grandfathers, George and Peter, were ministers and might men of God. They encouraged us to not only be hearers of the word but doers. I was blessed to grow up with only one of these strong men....Pop Coates. From him I learned to walk with God. He insisted, though, that I had to get to know God for myself. All of my mother's sisters, and she herself, echoed those same sentiments. They helped me learn that the Bible and religion is more than some dry language about some mythical God. But rather a guide and a way of life. This guide provides clear guidance regarding fiscal responsibility and accountability, morality, prescription for healthy eating, living and relationships, governance ( family and nation), and a whole lot more. What Jesus called abundant living. I watched as all my aunts. Uncles, cousins and siblings who applied these principles did in fact enjoy lives of continuous blessings and favor. This has not meant that death, problems and evil did not come Their way...but when it did it did not stay. And no I am not done holy roller. In fact I for years was the black sheep, prodigal son of the family. I recall one day, my Grandfather watching me struggle with drugs, PTSD (from Vietnam) and literally walking in the valley of shadow and death. He challenged me to try God. I asked how? Hs response "Walk out on faith." I have been on that faith walk every since. And guess what...God has been with me every step. ..
