?????????? Walkabout

This week in #exploringlinkedin it's time for a long walk outside to take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy Spring and Fall (I am seasonally respectful of hemispheres ??) in the great outdoors.

Map of the world showing North and South America, with a route from Ashburn, Virginia to Buenos Aires, Argentina to Berkeley, California to Salt Lake City, Utah to Washington D.C. to Haleakalā National Park, Hawaii.

We're on a walkabout, stopping by to stay hello to the people are organizations that work to help us all enjoy nature and preserve natural spaces for future generations.

The first stop on the tour is the National Recreation and Park Association. In the United States, the NRPA is "the leading advocacy organization dedicated to the advancement of public parks, recreation and conservation."

They are headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia and have a great LinkedIn page, posting regularly to their 27,000+ followers about all the great work local communities are doing to increase equitable access to great parks.

Walking on down the trail (quite a ways!) we're stopping at Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They have the vision of creating "a world in which human beings develop in harmony with nature," and are a major civil institution when it comes to parks and conservation in Argentina. They post regularly and have a great LinkedIn page!

I really liked this recent post highlighting how young people are getting training on the path to become professional park rangers. We'll keep on walking and see where we rest our feet awhile next!

Heading back north from Argentina, we're in the United States again to focus on organizations that work on outdoor adventure travel and the apparel and equipment you might need to enjoy your trip.

First, we're stopping through Berkeley to visit the HQ of Backroads, an adventure travel company that runs biking, hiking and multi-adventure trips in over 50 countries around the world. They have a great LinkedIn company page, with over 600 employees and 13,000 followers. They also have some great posts about finding meaningful and fulfilling work, like this one about Nick, one of their tour leaders. I'm definitely inspired to get out there and explore!

Next, we're hiking over to Salt Lake City's Cotopaxi, a social-impact-and-mission-driven outdoor products and apparel company that makes some really great gear for your next adventure. You should definitely check out a recent post about founder and CEO Davis Smith's recent appearance on REI's Wild Ideas Worth Living podcast.

I'm excited to see so many great posts from them on LinkedIn, and they have a bunch of job postings!

For our final stop, we're walking (and sailing) from one end of the United States to another, dropping in briefly in Washington, D.C. then making the long trip west, climbing to Haleakalā Crater at Haleakalā National Park on the Hawaiian island of Maui, to get a sense of what it might be like to work as a National Park Service guide or ranger. Turns out, you can apply to do just that here on LinkedIn!

The National Park Service has an outstanding presence here on LinkedIn, with consistently informative and inspiring posts, over 230,000 followers, and a lot of open jobs!

I hope our long journey this week has inspired you to connect with nature too. Now get outside and see where the trail leads. See you next week explorers!
