Walk in Your Customers’ Shoes

Got a new idea for a product or service? Now, more than ever before, you must start everything in your business by imagining yourself standing in your customers’ or buyers’ shoes.

Then examine if what you are embarking upon will solve a problem or create an opportunity for them. And be sure THEY will agree with you. :)

Your buyers are:

  • Running a business that has problems they need to solve, OR
  • Operating stores that want opportunities to capitalize upon, OR
  • Shopping to fulfill their wishes, wants and needs

No matter who your client is, they are seeking solutions and opportunities. Your business must solve a problem or provide a solution in order for people to trade money for your product or service.

So any new product or service you think of should begin with you imagining you are standing in their shoes. Ask yourself, ‘What challenges are my buyers facing and how can I help solve them’ – or – ‘What opportunities exist and how can I help my buyer to harness them?’

That is what they will find valuable enough to enlist your services or adopt your product.

Later, you will have an opportunity to show your value and expertise and share with them other opportunities or solutions that they may have missed.?

People are motivated to pay money when they are feeling the pain of a problem or a missed opportunity – if they are not having sleepless nights, they will not feel the need for a solution.

You cannot start with your idea, what you think they need. You must always begin with understanding the problem they have, and how you can solve that, to win their business.
