Walk and Talk

The executive stood front and center on the large stage to deliver a keynote speech to an audience of 500. First plus, he was not tethered to the usual lectern barrier. About three minutes into his speech, he wanted to move. To walk. But no, probably unaware, he started to list. First to the right and then to the left. Slowly.
I was sitting in the front row. After about 15 minutes of watching his side-to-side list, I asked myself, “Where is the Dramamine when you need it?”
Most people want to walk and talk but they don’t.
Instead,?they freeze in place. With the entire stage and a lavalier mic, he had the freedom to move and take advantage of the stage.?
From a professional point of view, it was evident the executive had not received?speech coaching. Here are five benefits that will make you more engaging when you speak or present and “walk and talk.”
1. You look more interesting when you move.
2.?You relate to the audience on each side of the stage, not limited to the center section.
3.??It takes practice but you can learn to walk, stop and make your point.
4.??You will feel more comfortable and look more natural.

5.??Most importantly you project more confidence.
