Walk to Renew

Walk to Renew

For the practice this month, take yourself on a walk, a Rest & Renew Walk.?

This is a walk with no other purpose than to be present in the moment, and receive nourishment.?

No need for insight or revelation. No need to talk yourself into being calm or focused.

Simply walk and allow your soul catch up with you.?

Set aside 30 minutes or so. Walk slowly and silently, preferably outside in nature, tho walking indoors can work too. Walk without trying to get anywhere.?

Amble, stroll, allow your senses to guide your walk.?

If you're drawn to a stone or a leaf or a tree, or even a chink in the concrete or shape of a cloud or the fragrance of the grass allow your senses to tune in fully.?

Allow yourself to pause, linger longer, and be fully present to the moment so that you can smell and touch and thoroughly observe whatever's right there with you.?

In doing so, you'll hear what the moment says. You can see what it looks like and feel what it has to say and teach to you.?

Don't hurry. There's no place to go. There's nothing to do. Take all the time you need to hear the secrets of nature.?

When it's time, when the rhythm of being there gives away to the rhythm of moving along, you'll know that instinctively.?

When it's time to begin again, simply move on. Follow your own timing and curiosity and when you are called to stop to pause.

At the end of your walk, notice what happened to your body, your mind, and your sense of time. Observe the rhythms you’ve been immersed in. Rest in them.?

I'd love to hear about your stroll in nature, email me at [email protected].

Thank you for this invitation, Chris L. Johnson, PsyD. It's still very hot here in Dallas but I'm going to find time to go on short walks when I can in the next few weeks.
