Walk in the rain, or drink more coffee?

It was raining one morning recently when I took my walk. It was only a light rain, but I have to admit, I was tempted to go back inside and drink another cup of coffee. Instead, I finished my walk and found that I actually enjoyed the light rain. Completing my walk felt good.
So often we set goals and then run into obstacles. We have the option of walking in the rain or going inside and drinking another cup of coffee.
Football season is getting ready to start, and each team has set goals for the year. Every team starts the season undefeated and has hope. For some, the championship is within reach. For others, a winning season would be huge.
Inevitably each team will face challenges. Last years’ teams faced challenges due to COVID. Rosters varied from week to week in unpredictable ways. Some teams thrived during the face of these challenges and some didn’t. Neither the scoreboard in any given game, nor the record at the end of the year was the true indicator of how each team dealt with the challenges. Rather, the important thing was whether each member of the team could look at their teammates and say with complete honesty that they’d given it their all.
Most of us have set big goals for both ourselves and our organizations. How will we handle the obstacles that inevitably get in the way? Will we walk in the rain or go inside and have another cup of coffee?
