Waking Up to Create
During the pandemic of 2020, I have really paid attention to my body and what it needs for input, output, food, sleep, information, etc. In doing so, I have noticed the furious sound of birds outside my window around 5:00 am. They chatter for awhile and I am awakened every morning. Recently, I learned that birds sing right before the sunrises in an effort to tell their story. They communicate with each other saying, "I made it through the night." "I am safe, how about you?" The beauty of nature playing it's roll and inviting me to observe.
With this in mind, I started asking myself, "how do I want to wake up? With the birds or later?" Then, I thought about how I wake up in my art. Am I waiting for the inspiration of others? Waiting on equipment? Waiting for something to say? This is the next step after we push aside, writers block and forge ahead. We can jump in or plan it out.
I am seeing the Universe wake me up, show up, and offer new ideas. I am being offered small gigs.... gathering (4 people) virtual gigs, partnerships, and music in ways I never imagined. My first career was running the music for a church. I never imagined organically being asked back to sing for Sunday services. This is the waking up!! This is how we stumble on a path and decide, "Ok, let's try it for awhile." This is how we connect deeper with friends or fellow artists. And this is how we Wake Up to Creating, a chatty bird at 5 in the morning asking us to take a chance for one more day.

4 年Great story, Sarah! I live the birds’ songs each morning! And I sure wake up earlier in these summer months! ????
