The 'Veli Ndaba NeuroEngineering Leadership Effect' #VNNLE ? Transforming Minds from Mental Darkness to Mental Light
"When you were born you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die, the world cries, while you rejoice." Rabindranath Tagoe
I thought I should share with you the two short conversations I had with two gentlemen in their sixties, separately of course. The first one (68yrs old) I met two weeks ago at the filling station, he was buying his lottery ticket. I just became inquisitive and asked him what he would do if he were to win ten million rand. He really looked puzzled and devastated by my question, he looked at me and said, "Well many things I would do. "Give me an example," I asked. He then said, "I would take two million rand and give it to the poor in my village and keep the eight. He still couldn't give me a convincing answer, I caught him off-guard, he had no plan at all but was expecting to win a lot of money. To him a poor person is the one without money, not the one who has no plan.
I spoke to the second one (63 yrs old with a PHD, he is a Dr) on Thursday this past week, he told me he was retiring at the end of August 2016, which is next month. I asked him a question as well, "How do you feel that you are retiring?" "I have mixed emotions about it, to be honest with you Veli." I further asked him a question, "Now that you have worked for forty years, what is your plan for the rest of your life?" I am still figuring out and I am honestly feeling lost and worried. I couldn't sleep at night thinking about this, I was really traumatised.
Goal-setting has so much been written and spoken about and yet very few seem to be taking it seriously. This is just across the board. The vast majority of people suffer after retirement because they couldn't prepare themselves in time for the life after retirement. It surely proves that our education system only prepares you to be an employee and nothing else. When you can no longer be employed, you are of no value and you just have to hand yourself over to the state to take care of you by giving you a mere one thousand five hundred rand per month, what a pity.
I hope that you stop procrastinating and start planning for your later years and be of value instead of being devalued. Nothing matters more on earth than your impact. You have gifts, talents, abilities and potential far beyond your imagination. Please, please, don't let it go to waste by listening to common consciousness.
