Wake Up Call!

Wake Up Call!

Here's something both funny and sad at the same time..... and hopefully a very important Life Lesson for some.

Connor McGregor just won his latest fight in the UFC in only 40 seconds utilising some very effective Shoulder Strikes which the MMA world has NEVER seen before.

And now the MMA world is going crazy thinking that something new has been invented by McGregor.

Here's some interesting comments from a recent post by a friend (George Johnston) who has also been trained by Andy Norman, Defence Lab Founder (previously known as KFM).

George's post:

"I’ve been doing shoulder strikes in hybrid for years, been criticised for it, hatters saying that won’t work in a real fight??? Conor McGregor does it and he’s the man. ????????????????????????????????????????????????"

Comments on his post:

"Now it would be interessting how many people will train shoulder strikes in the future ?? KFM had them since the 80s ???? but hey, now its a NEW move from connor ????????????"

"Problem is, these days nothing different works unless it is used in the UFC..as long you don.t see it in the UFC it is "useless"....people should start thinking out of the box.."

"Because people are stuck in there own wee bubble and can't see past what they do m8."

"Yep clinch work with shoulder strikes. That will never work says all the mma boys last week. Now i bet they are all training it"

Here's the thing. We get A LOT of abuse and mocking from the MMA and Muay Thai world always shouting that what we teach will never work.

I myself previously trained in Muay Thai for 11 years yet I was never this ignorant. I was always open to new ideas and ways to improve my Self Defence skills.

Shoulder Strikes (and many other unorthodox strikes) have been around for decades and were taught within Defence Lab (previously known as KFM) over 20 years ago.

Yet the MMA world and others who are stuck in their ways could never see it's true application..... UNTIL NOW.

George's post and the comments made, speak VOLUMES and hopefully now some people will be less egotistical and ignorant, and more humble and open in their approach to their training. ??

The GREAT NEWS is that some professional fighters have already turned to Defence Lab, including from the UFC itself, to give themselves an edge with techniques never seen before in the cage.

Slowly but surely, people are waking up to what Defence Lab truly is and what it has to offer! ??????

Now I know some people will comment that this post is wrong as Shoulder Strikes have been used in MMA before. To these people I will politely say as follows:

I think you've missed the point here which is that many strikes and techniques have been and continue to be ridiculed by 'mainstream' MMA.

I'm using words such as 'ridiculed' and 'mocked at' because these guys in their ignorance and arrogance just couldn't see the true potential of certain techniques UNTIL they see it happening in the UFC itself by someone willing to 'push the norm'.

Yes shoulder strikes have been seen before in the UFC but never in that light and with that understanding.

Previously it was something that a very FEW people did BUT now you will find every Tom, Dick and Harry training shoulder strikes to imitate Connor ONLY because they got to see it being used effectively in the UFC.

It's this SHEEP mentally that we're talking about..... the complete inability to see something for themselves until someone else shows it to them.

If shoulder strikes were really that mainstream then you wouldn't have the fight commentators and the rest of the world making such a big deal out if it and emphasising on it so much after this fight..... but now watch how shoulder strikes will explode within MMA.

Great post Tahir, yes you must laugh when you read it. In a clinch good close range dirty fighting it was as effective as a head butt. But less riskier for the Notorious one. Hope to catch up soon.

Wait and see if the double slap is to be used in a fight

I’m glad to have commented on this , my thoughts are the same , I used shoulder strikes for years so did many of my instructors, people just want to recreate the wheel again .
