Wait...You're Calling it '? The Shift'??

Wait...You're Calling it ' The Shift'?

In the last year+, I've started to see shifts all around me. There is the shift that came for all of us with the pandemic that we are still in and for each of us, shifting us in ways in which we could have never imagined.

There is the shift of the world recognizing that we have not yet closed the equity gap and it's time we have a real conversation on what it means to be anti-racist, diverse, inclusive, equitable, accessible, and do it all while remembering what all of these acronyms mean in the first place.

And then there is the shift within how our community is defined, from a virtual, digital, and even in-person perspective, where there seem to be more barriers and rules with how you build community, maintain it and open up spaces for real, honest dialogue that shift us from sitting behind our hashtags and in front of doing the work.

I want that community. I need that community. And I have realized that if I want and need that community,?I have a responsibility to build it, uphold it, and make it a space where we can all do the work & shift together.

Welcome to that community. Welcome to our community. Welcome to The Shift :).

Weekly, I'll be here with a short reflection on ideas for ways to do "the work", driven by the things that you ask me. My goal is to spend less time deciding what's most helpful to share and more time reading and responding to your questions/reflections that you submit to me by commenting on these posts or sending me a message here. I want this to be a space where you can ask me anything, from why do I believe anti-racism work is different from D.EI. work, how to push forward with D.E.I. in your business, or even how I feel about waffles vs. pancakes.

Each week that you are in this space, I want you to see your community's questions, reactions, and thoughts and I want you to feel connected and know that you aren't doing this work alone. It's our community because we are in this together.

Period.

I also want you to?do?the actual work of being an inclusive human who is a part of an anti-racist, inclusive business too.

So, at the end of each newsletter, I'll also share a few ways you can take your work beyond opening this email with me specifically. Join what is helpful for you, share with others that may need it too, and engage with what will help you and your team continue to dig into your D.E.I. journey. I believe that doing the work starts with investing in spaces where you can not only learn but actually begin to apply the lessons I've learned. Each offering is intended to help you do just that.

Let's shift y'all and change our workplaces, our businesses, our organizations by engaging deeply in this community that is designed to help us all shift D.E.I. in our work. That starts with a little Tuesday morning "get together over a newsletter" every week.

Until next week,

-Dynasti

Thanks for creating the space! My first question is why we have chosen the order Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? I personally feel that inclusion is the key. Inclusion is for everyone and if you first build an inclusive environment that includes equitable treatment of the people you currently are involved with. If those two things don’t happen first then attracting Diversity is more difficult because you don’t have an environment to sustain the diversity. I think currently people tend to go after the diversity first so they can feel like they have a quicker return on investment. What are your thoughts?

Thank you Dynasti, I am really looking forward to understanding and being thoughtfully and more naturally inclusive. I appreciate you creating this newsletter and shedding some light on what kind of work I can put in.
