Waiting for the perfect time to travel...part 251
You’ve got an excuse for everything. And you’ve been holding on to these excuses for years now. They just roll off the tongue. Like “Hi, how are you? Good! I can’t because….”
Those I can’t be excuses excuses are a part of you. They’re ingrained in your system. You take them for truth
“Play it safe, everyone has to work a few years doing something they don’t like. What makes you special?”
“Who are you to quit your job and travel the country?”
“Are you sure you There Isn’t One have enough savings?”
“What about student debt?”
These doubts were loud– but not loud enough to stop me from buying a house . But if we’re being honest here, I could have easily made the choice to stay put. I might have been miserable, but I’m the kind of person who can be happy doing just about any kind of work There is such a fine, tiny line between the choices we make in life. One decision can ultimately change the entire direction of your life.
For me, a choice to walk away from a job last year turned into the second best decision of my life (first one was the girl I married #priorities). Since walking away from that job I’ve worked a job in Ontario. I’ve gotten more life experiences than many people twice my age. I’ve been able to supplement an income for both my wife and I to continue traveling. But all of those things almost didn’t happen. I almost stayed put.
I almost waited until “the right time to travel “. I almost waited until we were more settled in our lives. Nobody would have given me a hard time if we had decided not to buy an RV and travel the country. Life is funny like that, we accept mediocrity but face so much damn resistance when we try to step out of line. I felt that resistance too, from a lot of people.

Thank you …This applies to so much more than travel. If you want to start a business, non-profit, food truck, write a book, or film a documentary– don’t wait. Seriously, the only thing that’s stopping you is your own insecurity and fear of the unknown.
Last year when we hit the road I had never been paid to write. I had no film experience. I had huge student debt. I had more excuses than most to “wait it out”. The excuses we tell ourselves are really just fear in disguise. Fear of failing or looking dumb. Fear of having a big gap on our resume’ if we decide to go and travel for a year.
All of these fears are irrational. The media makes us afraid of what’s out there in the world, but I can tell you from experience that it’s not all bad. I’ve worked in every state, met people from all walks of life, and have spent the night in parking lots in parts of town that scared me. But I’m better for it and I’m still here.
The worst thing that might happen? Run out or low on money?
Car break down? Yep, I’ve been there too. And guess what, those real-life scary moments make for the best stories.
You can keep making excuses and play it safe, but you aren’t kidding anybody (except for maybe yourself).
Don’t wait to live. Don’t put off doing something today because you think tomorrow is guaranteed. It’s not. Our health, our lives, and our energy for life will all go away sooner than we think.
Don’t wait.
“I can’t do that right now. Not while my life’s such a mess.” —
Life is chaos and anyone who thinks anything but is somewhat of a fool.
There will never be a perfect time for you to take action. The stars will never align precisely as you plan them to. There will never be a clear moment for you to start a new project, to quit your job, to get in shape, to change your habits, ask that girl out, or to be a better son.
An entire lifetime will pass you by waiting for the “perfect” conditions to get started. But that’s silly — the perfect time to start is now. Once you concede to this fact, you’ll be on your way to becoming the person you actually want to be rather than the shade of yourself you currently are.
Want to add word or two?
When it comes to exercise and your health, doing something is almost always better than doing nothing. Skipping an entire week or months’ worth of exercise just because of less than ideal conditions is an excuse we tell ourselves to be lazy.
Why not today? Why not now?
Your health and well-being depend on it. Stop wasting time and get to it.
Your comment ….?
Productivity is the measure of output in terms of per unit input. It’s how much work you get done compared to how much effort you put into it.
Based on that definition, you can see how waiting for things to be “perfect” could land you in some hot water.
Your boss, be that yourself or someone else, expects you to produce. Most often, he or she doesn’t need something to be “perfect”, she just wants it to be done and done “good enough”.
This means that at some point, you need to stop spinning your wheels striving for perfection and instead focus on doing what you need to in order to move onto the next important task.
The reality is that most critical actions require a certain minimum amount of work to get the job done (e.g. a toilet can’t be cleaned thoroughly faster than 5 minutes), but have a damn near limitless ceiling to complete to perfection (e.g. you can spend hours scrubbing that same toilet until every spec sparkles like diamonds).
But the sooner you complete the task and move onto the next one, the sooner you achieve your goals — whatever those may be.

3 年You’ve been someone who sits on the sidelines waiting for those perfect and mythical moments. No problem because that can change today. Here’s how you can work your way out of that line of thinking: Notice the excuses The first step here is to actually take a step back and notice all of the excuses you make on a daily basis. The next time you find yourself striving for perfection or not starting something, pause for a few moments and notice all of the excuses you tell yourself. Taking up a mindfulness practice wouldn’t be a bad idea if you need help learning some self-awareness if needed (which wouldn’t be a bad idea in general, anyway). Debunk your excuses 99.9% of the time, your excuses are exactly that — excuses. As you notice the lies you tell yourself, expose them for what they are. OF COURSE exercising even just a couple days during the week is better than nothing. And yes, obviously eating a small fry is better than a medium. So why are you still so hesitant to just do what you need to do? The more you explore your excuses, the more you’ll realize how full of BS you sometimes are. Stop waiting, just go By far, the hardest step to breaking your old habit of doing nothing is to simply start. Each time you notice and expose your excuses should give you a little nudge towards taking action during your next chance. Eventually, you build up enough of a case to stop waiting and to just go. At some point, you just have to trust in yourself to make things work and to believe that some progress is better than nothing. Realize that with all of the time you spend thinking and analyzing about what conditions need to be met, you could already be well on your way to completing whatever you wanted to do. At the very least, you’d be started — which is a hell of a victory in itself. Honestly, I never wait, I just do. I have realized that life is way too short to WAIT for things. You have to DO THEM if you want to make them happen! Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.
