Waiting my Google Passport
I am waiting my Google passport, aren't you?
Come on, Google has no passport.
Yes that's true.
What about this in 10 to 20 years?
I do think by that time, Google will have a passport which will allow its holder to access the United incorporation of Google (UIG) facilities and this passport will let you do many things that are now a typical function of a government!!
Let's think about governments loudly,
Governments are in general ineffective and inefficient organizations, very few exceptions exist. Governments as organizations started hundreds of years ago with poor to medium outcome and failed to manage the economic resource in many examples. Weak long term performance led by rigidity and lacking innovation will be eventually ending up by unsustainable governmental model. Dying governments will give off their power and authority to other functioning living organizations.
Which organizations are those?
Smarter innovative organizations have been performing exceptionally well through the challenges. They experienced development and growth from both economic and human capital perspectives which exceeded any expectations. Some of them existed for very few years and their impact and outcome are strong as if they existed since Early Jurassic. Those organizations were led mainly by the millennium generation enabled by innovation and entrepreneurship. Eventually those organizations will recreate and redefine everything around them bringing their virtual life alive.
And now let's get back to Google,
From a search engine on 1998 to a Googleplex on 2004, Google developed search technologies, mobiles, cars, glasses, health monitoring devices and many others. I could imagine easily how they will invade every single part of our life and make it better. At a moment in the future they will have their own healthcare system, education system, transportation system, security and intelligence system, financial and banking system and on top of all of that a governance system. Which model resemble this? Yes, a government. It might don't have a label of government but functional wise, it is. This Google ID or Passport will grant you access to these services exactly as what a national ID and social security card is doing.
Definitely governments will be not happy?
There will be lot of tensions between both parties. Its not easy for governments to give away their power to such a successful giant. Look to the steps taken recently by the EU Parliament and was highlighted in the Economist report "Should digital monopolies be broken up?". However, I don't think governments globally will have enough power or authority to stop this expansion and growth. For example US government will strengthen the growth of its US based giant to support and maintain a better economic environment.
Back to my Google Passport
At a point in 10-20 years I might pay Google monthly "instead of monthly tax to my government" to give me access to those services "if I am not a Google employee by then :)". I believe those services will be much better in term of quality and efficiency than what a best government will do. I'll send my kids to Google school and university, I'll go to my neighborhood Google clinic, I'll cloth from Google smart fabrics, i'll use Google car throughout streets have been built by Google for interactive navigation using Google maps, I'll invest my money with Google finance and I might also get an insurance with them.
Do you think this is a crazy dream?
The answer is simple, do you know how much leverage will come through multiple successful "Merger and acquisition" by Google?
