Waiting for AGI

Waiting for AGI

The tree is a server rack, the barren landscape is the internet, and the absent Godot is a superintelligence that we are convinced will one day emerge with answers to our self-inflicted chaos.

Like Vladimir and Estragon, humanity stands awkwardly on the threshold between anticipation and despair. We argue about alignment ethics, fret over timelines, and occasionally kick failed chatbots in the butt. Our waiting is not passive. It is filled with the constant chatter of data training and ethical debates. What if AGI never arrives, or, even worse, arrives and just shrugs? “Yes, I'm here. No, I won't enlighten you.“

Beckett might just chuckle at our plight. His refrain echoes here: ”There's nothing to be done." Except in our case, there's also a neurotic determination to do everything possible, including asking GPTs about our existential crisis.

If AGI is our Godot, the deeper question is: Are we Vladimir and Estragon, waiting for deliverance, or are we Pozzo and Lucky, enslaved by our expectations and dragging each other down in circles of power, dependency, and futility? Maybe we don't need AGI at all. Perhaps it's about the waiting itself. An endless interrogation of what we value, fear, and hope for.

I hear Beckett mumble softly: “We always find something, don't we, Didi, that gives us the impression that we exist?”

AGI- Far far far away :) Robots are just toys by now. They navigate through Reinforcement Learning. See through computer vision. Speak ,linsten, understand ,cnverse through ARS, TTS ,NLP. Even if there is any robust system by which we can combine all our knowledge how can they walk like humans, talk like humans and become coauthor s ,sit with us , travel with us ,enjoy nature. Research is on ,great! Can they learn like animals ? These LLM s definitely won't help. We need statistical mechanics. And even after 10 years we ll hv everything the same. Yes, life has changed and work culture will chsbge ,there ll be structural chsnge in employment. UBI will be implemented. Life won't be the same ,the way we are moving ahead. But true AGI , is a dream probably that wont be achieved in near future.

Bill Luker Jr PhD Jesse Daniel Brown This is all a distraction to make people look at anything other than TODAY's problems with "AI" (which is mostly LLMs today): - Stolen IP and massive lawsuits in courts - Crazy Energy / Water Usage - A comeback for Nuclear which was almost dead and buried - Disinformation on tap - Nobody knows what's real or fake anymore without spending time on it - way easier to create fake stuff than to prove it's fake (at which point the damage is already done). - A Technology that is unreliable, prone to make mistakes and very good at fooling people. - The same Technology at the point of diminishing returns - A Technology that has already destroyed so many lives without a single "terminator sporting a german accent": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_childcare_benefits_scandal I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Why worry about problems well into the future (if ever) when you have a ton to solve today?

"...a superintelligence that we are convinced will one day emerge with answers to our self-inflicted chaos..." Who is convinced of this? Certainly not me. And when has this been articulated, and by whom?

So first I wanna know DiDi ..but I agree about superintelligence being absent from AI .. if it is coming from you .. a scholar in ethics and technology then I believe it’s true and so will AI ..so.. what would be AGI be if it’s not Godot but a Humanaut who will deliver a space for existing and be of value and expect good fortune just like it happens in any evolutionary pattern.. that is a ruse I would bet on .. humanaut has the power to overcome Godot as always .. Godot could be a helper like he made Santabot.
