After what?

After is an adverb but not in the sentence above. In this sentence, after is a conjunction and requires subsequent information defining when.

I’ll talk to you after I get out of the meeting.

I’ll do it after work.

We’ll see them after the show.?

Later is an adverb. It means some time subsequent to a given time. It needs no additional information.?

I’ll talk to you later.

Later is indeterminate. It’s not defined.

I’ll talk to you later.

Then there is afterward/afterwards.

Afterward is an adverb and functions as later does; though with afterward, a specific timeline is understood.

I have to go to a meeting right now. I’ll talk to you afterward.

If this is the meaning you hope to convey, use afterward.?

I’ll talk to you afterward.

I’ll talk to you after - is not a complete thought.

If you can’t do something now and want to express that you’ll do it in the future, use later.

Later is indeterminate.

I’ll talk to you later.

Seems like picky stuff, right? Yes, indeed. But it's how the language works.

Will people understand you if you just use after - I'll talk to you after ? Yes, they will. So what does it matter then? I'll let you decide that after thinking about how small stuff in your native language works, and how you evaluate a speaker if they don't follow it - how it works.

I’ve created a review of the most common errors by speakers of English as a foreign language. How do I know what they are? Years of hearing them. Yes, the same mistakes people make time and again.

Learn what the mistakes are and get insight to train them away.?
