Wait, what day is it?

Wait, what day is it?

I had an alarm set on my phone this morning for 7:40am.? It took me a bit to remember why I had set the alarm.? I set it last Monday so that I didn’t forget to log in for the 7:45am update about our downsizing.

How can that have been only a week ago?? It seems like it’s been weeks and weeks.? Yet it was only eight days ago. Eight.? I managed to do a lot of job searching in that time, connect with some (former) co-workers, some new folks, and I did a lot of thinking.? I found some jobs that looked interesting and quite a few that didn’t.? I applied for a few jobs. I’ve already got back a ??????????????????????????? decline letter or two.??

Applying for jobs feels like you click “apply”, send off all your information and never hear back.? While getting a ??????????????????????????? decline can be disheartening at least I feel like someone acknowledged the effort I took to apply and is letting me know where I stand.??

In today’s technology driven world I have to remind myself that a job hunt is NOT going to be like Amazon or social media.? We’re used to 24-hour delivery, immediate streaming of new movies we buy and the gloss of social media.? Real life isn’t all rose-colored glasses and sometimes that delivery from Amazon can take weeks.??

A reminder….? good things take time.? Great things may take even longer.??

There are a few things that I didn’t do last week that I ended up doing this morning:

  • Set up my wireless headset

One of the more interesting jobs that I found this morning asked me to submit a short recording introducing myself.? That was when I realized that I had not set up my wireless? headset to my laptop. I lost all those set-ups when I returned my work laptop to FedEx last week.? Better to get the wireless headset working now for all those interviews (fingers crossed) that I will be having.

  • Get my video camera working

I got my monitors hooked up last week but after setting up my wireless headset I decided I should check my video camera set up for my external monitor.? Ooops, that wasn’t working either.? Darn technology.? Finally got the camera set up and working.? Another thing ready for any potential interviews.

  • Apply for unemployment

Unemployment won’t provide much, but I’ve paid into the system with every paycheck so you better bet I want to make sure I get every darn cent.? The official timing from GM was that my last day I completed any work was August 19, I am 100% eligible to submit my application and got that done.

  • Connect with the outplacement services?

I was provided outplacement services.? That is on my list to do today.? The information for these services was one of eleven attachments sent last Monday.? I had forgotten about it until one of my friends asked about it this weekend.? Still need to get to that.

Celebrate the small wins…

I am thankful that I had a girl’s trip scheduled this past weekend.? We shared stories, we laughed and when I was having a hard time and feeling really down on Saturday they were all there for me.? Thanks to my “Work B**ches” you’re the best.
