Wait! Stop! Snack! ???
In our dizzying treadmill of life, what I’m about to suggest may sound counter intuitive if you’re attempting to reduce distractions and focus on the things that matter. I’m suggesting it anyway.
Does the following sound familiar?
“I need to carve out time to get to __X__”.
That X-thing could be working out, cleaning the house or working on a strategic plan. It’s tempting to categorize such things as “projects”. Something "over there”.?To-dos to get ta-done, some other time—when there’s time.?
The thing is though—they're always “over here”—with you… needing to get done (or maybe they don’t, BTW).?
If we pay attention, we may discover ourselves walking right past the project components every day.
When we walk past them, it might make sense to stop and snack on them.
If there’s a treadmill on the way back to your desk from the bathroom… perhaps a 2-minute treadmill snack can slip into the mix without derailing the entire day.
If there’s a dozen pieces of paper that need filing, on the way back to the desk perhaps one piece of paper can be filed (or trashed)—right away.
Such things can take a minute or two (or less) and if we count the number of times we go to/fro the bathroom on a given day, we’ll discover that numerous chunks of projects can “get-done” before we even realize we’ve begun.
You might even get hooked on doing something and stick with it. You might end up spending more than a minute or two.
And if it's the treadmill, you might might end up fueling your heart, mind, spirit and health... and doing the thing(s) that matter after all.
