To Wait Or Not To Wait...

Seeking the best brains & talents in Engineering - are you the one I am looking for?
To the tune of the famous quote from William Shakespeare, "To be, or not to be, that is the question", I will morph this to "To wait, or not to wait, that is the question" in this article.
Why this question, you may ask. Simple reason: I am a global headhunter, sourcing for best-fit candidates for various roles from my clients. In this process, understandably timing is super crucial in "catching candidates" when they are ready to move or not at any points in their careers. And typically, the first three months of every year is crucial as well, as most of them would be waiting for bonus payouts, which usually happens in February or March timeframes.
In this respect, nearly all candidates would tell me (in January or even in February timeframes) that "...I am not open now. I will start looking after March or so". Further probing from my side would yield the reason to be: waiting for bonus payouts. And that is where my question comes in "To wait, or not to wait, that is the question".
Please allow me to share these facts:
1) Any recruitment process for any companies, in any geographical locations, would take on average anywhere between 1-2 months (due to reasons like multiple candidates to be going through multiple rounds of interview sessions; difficult to get all interviewers to interview back-to-back, one after the other, and many other possible reasons);
2) After successful interview session(s), and by the time offers are made to the best-fit candidates for consideration and acceptance, it would easily be 2 months from January or February timeframes;
3) If 95% of all candidates choose to wait for bonus payouts before making any applications (which then put it to March or April timeframes), guess what is going to happen? There will be a huge surge of applications in the market then, and your application will simply be lost in this "sea of candidates";
4) Or would this makes more sense? If you can go through Processes (1) and (2) above in January or February, and if you have offers on hand by March/April, KUDOS to you! Even if you don't, you are already at the tail-end of the recruitment process, whilst all others are just at READY-SET-GO: off the starting-block!
If the above resonates with you; and you somewhat agree, do feel free to reach out for a confidential discussion on roles that I am currently hiring for my clients. Even if there are no matching roles ultimately, hopefully, you will realize some forms of take-aways from our discussions. My contact details are in my LinkedIn profile...
Remember that this is so true in job-hunting: "The early bird really do catch the worms!"
P/S Currently, I do in fact have multiple roles in Malaysia as well as other regional countries, so do reach out and let's talk.

3 年Also would like to add one more invaluable lesson I learned from a very senior HR Manager long time ago, which set my belief from that day onwards. He said, "Mike, you should do something when you do not need it. It would be too late to start when you really need it". And in the quest of job hunting, this is sadly "oh so true"...
