Wait for it. It's coming around again - the "old school" group dynamics.

I'm noticing how much camel hair coats are the trend now in fashion, and they are beautiful. I remember when our daughter borrowed my husband's beautiful camel hair jacket and proceeded to wear it to pieces. It was quite cool of her. She's artistic, fashionable, and has really great taste.?

What else is just coming around again - I'm learning from talking to some of my colleagues of a younger generation - is their wanting transformational leadership development in the old school style, though they don't know this. Fortunately, I am one of the "dinosaurs" of the '70s experiential training and development days, and I am finding that the tools, and strategies, the simulations, and processes are working in incredibly effective ways for the generations who never got to experience them. Granted, some of the torque has shifted to a kinder, gentler way of delivery than was happening when we first created the trainings.?

It's kind of like what Arlo Guthrie was singing and saying in his song Alice's Restaurant, "We're just waiting for it to come around is what we're doing." Well folks, look at the state of the world. The waiting is over. Let's get busy answering the calls and getting people working together as teams. Creating safe spaces for experiential education and discoveries, all generations collaborating together. We've done it before. We can do it again. Here we are, one more time around, camel hair coats, platform shoes, and all.

I think you are absolutely right, Dr. Martin. I have been thinking the same as you. In fact, I ghave a couple of new clients that I am mentoring to learn the old methods we created and taught successfully for many years. The new approach to the wold work is hightly desirable and effective. I have used it with a client recently, and they were wowed by it. In fact, one Secretary of State , who attended the new version of the training wrote to me to suggest that it will be useful to her work with entrepreneurs and business owners in her state. I am game for teaching new trainers the methods and the new ways of delivering that would be perfect for the new culture. Any time we want to do that for a group (trainers and/or corporate clients), I am game. I'd be thriled for the right group of people.
