Did I really abandon my newsletter for a year?

What a classic move: start a newsletter, build momentum, and then completely abandon it.

It’s been a busy year. I left GuruLink and partnered with Vertex Recruiting Solutions!

Why the change? A year ago, I realized that being strictly a technology recruiter, and putting all my eggs in one basket (yes, it’s a cliché, but sometimes they fit), wasn’t the best way to grow my business. It was time to branch out, take on fresh challenges, and explore new industries.

Since then, I’ve recruited for logistics sales, retail sales, and in-home design consultants. Each one brought unique challenges, new expectations, and, honestly, a ton of lingo I had to quickly understand.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Diving into a new industry is daunting, but it forces you to sharpen your skills and adapt quickly.
  • Great hiring starts with understanding what really makes someone successful in a role and being willing to dig in and learn the nuances of your clients’ world.
  • Every industry has its quirks, but the fundamentals of building strong teams stay the same.

A year ago, I couldn’t have told you the difference between a 3PL, LTL, or FTL. Now? Let’s just say I’ve figured it out, but I’ll spare you the logistics lesson.

What about you? What’s something you’ve learned, tackled, or adapted to over the past year? I’d love to hear your take.

Here’s to picking up where I left off and actually keeping it going this time.

Take care, Jon

I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences and shared insights!
