A CERTAIN SYNERGY - a play about Sir John Soane and Joseph Gandy.

“A thought-provoking play, very relevant to our times.” Charles Summers – Artist

“Bitingly funny and so current! I love it!” Dr. Gerri Kimber – Author & Critic

“Wonderful! I can think of no other playwright who responds more swiftly, aptly or wittily to current events and morés. The Zeitgeist !” Eluned Gwyneth Hawkins – Actor & Poet

The architect Sir John Soane (1753-1837), and architect and artist Joseph Michael Gandy (1771-1843), are two major figures in the arts, though their stories are somewhat hidden histories. In W. A. Drew’s new chamber play, employing a technique akin to that favoured by his subjects of combing the past, present and future in their works, he brings a fresh approach to their remarkable lives. A series of fictional encounters portray the journeys two talented but irascible men, from far from wealthy backgrounds, made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, whilst a present-day lecturer, confronted by the cultural challenges of 21st Century Britain provides, a provocative, commentary.
