Dear Son,
You are allowed to indulge in watching television once or twice a week, for a specific duration. Over the past year, I have noticed a commendable sense of discipline in how you manage your TV time. While the temptation to extend your favorite cartoon shows still persists, I must say that you have increasingly demonstrated obedience to the agreed-upon time limit. When we sit down to watch TV, we enter into an unspoken pact regarding the duration of your program, and I've noticed that whenever? I called out, "Ethan, time's up," you promptly switch it off without much persuasion from me or hesitation from you.
Today, I want to share with you the core reason behind this practice, one that I consider the most significant. As you grow older, you will come to realize that excessive TV viewing can adversely impact your eyesight. As parents, we have permitted some TV time, while remaining steadfast on our decision to provide access to mobile phones for you. It has been four months since you last watched anything on a mobile device. We encourage you watch specific content on TV, such as sports, news and films. For instance, we recently witnessed the historic event of Chandrayaan 3's launch on TV or earlier we watched Kungfu Panda.?
However, the most profound reason behind this approach is the value of keeping one's word. It reminds me of a powerful line from the movie "Mayor Sahab," featuring the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, which was released back in 1998. In a song, while the heartthrob of the film, Ajay Devgan, tried to win over his lady love, Sonali Bendre, he sang, "wada kiya to nibhaya karo, baat ban jayegi" – which can be translated in English to "if you make a promise, then fulfill it and things will work out." Though these lines were part of a beautiful hit song, allow me to simplify their essence.
As you mature, you will collaborate with many people for various reasons, learning from intelligent individuals who surround you – teachers, classmates, colleagues, supervisors, and family members. You will undertake numerous tasks, and often, you will be expected to commit to completing them within specific timelines. When you deliver on those promises promptly, you gain the TRUST of others. TRUST, in turn, opens doors to engaging with people who possess exceptional abilities, enabling you to learn invaluable skills and traits throughout life.
In India, cricket is a sport we hold dear and cherish every bit of it. Whenever a player is given the responsibility of a bat or ball, they make an implicit commitment to the captain, team, audience, or the nation that they will deliver results and can be trusted to do so. The more a player lives up to these expectations and promises made to others, the higher their stature rises, earning them the title of "most valuable player." While the game of cricket was just an example it is applied in every sphere of life. Whether you make a commitment to others or self, just fulfill it within the timeline promised. It would not happen so easily espcarillay as you are living in a world with so much of distractions. It will happen because of sheer hard work and practie over a period time.
It's crucial to understand that only a chosen few in the world fall into this category of trustworthiness, those who promise and deliver as per the promises, word by word. Therefore, be mindful of the promises you make. But once you do make a promise, strive to fulfill it, and you will enter a league of your own. Remember “wada kiya to nibhaya karo”

Enjoy your favourite shows, my dear son. When you try to repeat "wada kiya to nibhaya karo..." with your charmingly broken Hindi, it fills me with satisfaction, knowing that you are beginning to grasp this invaluable vital philosophy of life.
With immense love and affection,
Papa
