W2 Phising is a major issue.
As a famous seller of suits used to say, "An educated consumer is our best customer".
W2 Phishing Campaigns on the Rise
With tax time just around the corner, the FBI is notifying businesses to beware of W2 phishing campaigns. More information can be found through the link below, but the details are pretty basic; the most common type of scam "remains impersonating an executive, either through a compromised or spoofed email in order to obtain W-2 information from a Human Resource (HR) professional within the same organization."
Over the past couple of years, the Ashton team has come across a handful of businesses who've fallen prey to this scam. Employee data was sent out the door by a well meaning executive admin, and within weeks, employees attempting to file online tax returns were told their identities had already been used to file.
We ask that you share this information with your entire team, but pay particular attention to administrative assistants, and those in HR and finance. If you or your team receive a questionable email, please don't hesitate to contact the Ashton team to confirm its validity.
You can also contact us regarding security awareness training for your team, or to learn more about security measures to help reduce the likelihood of losing company data.
