As I am in my final year of my PhD research my workdays are mainly filled with writing. The goal is to have finished this book in a couple of months and I am proud to say that I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I am now working on my results chapter and then off to the discussion and conclusion. Even though the days behind the computer can be very long, I will admit that I really enjoy seeing how it all comes together to one narrative about interactions in the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean.

I am one of those persons who tends to take a lot of notes before I start writing. It helps me organize my thoughts so that I can actually write something down that makes sense. I used to write these notes down on notebooks, but that became such a mess! It happened more than once that I could not find the specific notes I needed between all the other notes, plus I did not like the amount of paper that got spilled because of it. I therefore love the Christmas present I got from Sjors. It is a notebook with reusable pages! It comes with an app for organizing your writings. So I just write down like I normally would, than take a picture of them with the app. I can organize the notes according to topic and date, and then wipe out all I have written down and use the notebook for new notes, thoughts, to do lists etc.

Writing my dissertation and this blogpost have not been my only writing tasks. Over the past month I have also been working on a journal publication, which I just submitted! I love that by the end of my PhD I will have a book in hand that has my name on it, but it has also been great to publish parts of it in between. This way people get to know your work and let’s be honest, it is super cool to see your own name pop-up in an international journal.

I have to ask... where does one get such a notebook? That sounds amazing!
