Market Update by Nick Coleridge-Watts, Co-Managing Director
The market in 2024 continues to exhibit some legacy elements from the aftermath of the pandemic, specifically industry inconsistency in hybrid working arrangements and general flexibility. Caution in hiring brought about by the global economic situation has continued to see some clients use long-term temps to fill roles instead of perm placements, while candidates remain keen to secure salaries which offset the general increase in the cost of living. That inconsistency has kept the market largely in candidates’ hands as the possibility of a better offering empowers strong candidates to be competitive. Overall, clients who keep their processes quick with minimal changes to job specs are most likely to secure and retain the best talent.
Spotlight on Benefits
Q1 of 2024 continued to see equilibrium in the market vs Q1 of 2023 and attracting and retaining top talent remained paramount for businesses aiming to thrive. While salary and career development opportunities continue to be key factors in employee satisfaction, as the dynamics of the workforce have evolved, so too have the expectations surrounding benefits. No longer are benefits primarily consisting of healthcare and retirement plans enough, and employees seek wider support that acknowledges their diverse needs and preferences. As a result, companies continue to explore and broaden their benefits packages. Here is a snapshot of benefits currently seen and desired in the market.
