VW Golf ?? 8 generations in 50 years

The Golf is the heart of the Volkswagen brand – and it stands for the term “bestseller” like hardly any other model. More than 37 million vehicles have been sold in eight generations.

It was an automotive revolution when Volkswagen presented the first Golf and thus the successor to the legendary Beetle in 1974: with front-wheel drive (instead of rear engine) and a variable overall concept thanks to the large boot lid and folding rear seat backrest. In addition, the straight-line design created by Giorgetto Giugiaro helped Volkswagen adopt a new style, which was also continued in its successors. The Golf quickly became a true “Volkswagen”, and the first million units were sold as early as 1976.

Golf marks its 50th anniversary with a launch full of innovations, having a history of half a century that defined modern mobility. The updated version of the famous model presents itself with a new design, advanced technology and increased efficiency.

Volkswagen underlines the importance of the model for the brand, sharing the decision to advance through a new stage of evolution with improved efficiency and a new driving experience, emphasizing the historical success of the Golf and adding that the continued technological development of the model will open a new chapter.

The model is equipped with a completely renewed Infotainment system, which promises intuitive operation and includes a fast processor, a generously sized touchscreen, ergonomic lighting for temperature and volume control, helming the car with its intelligent voice assistant, IDA, and ChatGPT integration, opening new possibilities for the interaction between man and machine.

The new plug-in hybrid engine comes with an autonomy of approximately 100 kilometers in electric mode and up to 1,000 kilometers in total, including DC fast charging facilities. The mild hybrid and classic gasoline and diesel engines also offer part of the range of new engines.

VW does not neglect the parking assistance part either, with innovative systems that help detect parking spaces and maneuver the vehicle in narrow spaces, thus facilitating one of the daily challenges of drivers.

The current model pays tribute to the long tradition, at the same time paving the way for the future with technological solutions at the border between comfort, safety and interconnectivity, always at a performing and accessible level. In this way, the Golf remains an exponent of Volkswagen's constant innovation and adaptability.
