I’ve really learnt a lot over the past 12 months working in an industry full of celebrations, success milestones and the constant narrative that everything is thriving .
You won’t always feel that way.?
That’s OK.?
Sometimes you will feel a little lost about whether your decision is the right one but you will make it anyway.
You’ll also feel emotionally exhausted- especially when you care deeply.?
After some of the toughest days in business you will need to go home to your family and take on their emotional needs too.
You’ll need to remember to make time for your own needs.?
You will also need to remind yourself that what you see isn’t always what is true behind the scenes.
You’ll need to define your own version of success.?
You also need to remember not everyone will understand what you are trying to do comes from a good place.?
They don’t know you.?
To them, you are just another voice on the phone, full of broken promises and disappointment.?
It’s not personal.
Don’t take that first icy interaction as the temperature gauge for your whole relationship.
A year from now this will probably be one of your best clients or happiest placements.?
Because you didn’t give up.

Because they needed your help and you didn’t walk away when it wasn’t easy.?
You’ll need to have the energy to prove them wrong every time.?
You’ll have to do this with every new client because they’ve likely had bad experiences before and been burned.
You’ll need to remind yourself that’s why you do this job.??
You’ll need to remind your team that’s why you hired them to do their jobs.
You’ll feel every hurt and disappointment with them too because you know how hard they work and you know they are juggling just like you.?
You’ll also need to learn not to take it personally when someone lets you down or you don’t get the outcome you’d hoped.
You’ll learn how to be vulnerable.
You’ll learn that it allows your team to do the same.
You’ll learn so much in business but you won’t allow others to learn from your mistakes if you aren’t truly honest about the journey.
You’ll learn that this doesn’t make you weak and you will learn that in doing so you allow others to do the same.
Yes, we could all use a little more vulnerability in business.
