Introduction:
When people are talking about pay per use model of Cloud services, VMware also came up with same feature in licensing subscription model for its on-premise infrastructure along with retaining its traditional way of perpetual licensing.
If any Organization opts for subscription-based licensing, then they don’t have to purchase perpetual license keys with specific CPU numbers, they have the option to integrate vCenter to vSphere+ or vSphere+ with vSAN+ feature and pay only for whatever number of CPUs are being used.
It comes with two parts:
1. vSphere+ licensing subscription for ESXi hosts
2. vSAN+ for vSAN infrastructure licensing
?
It allows to use vSphere+ with or without vSAN+ subscription.
When you deactivate vSAN on a cluster with a?vSAN+?subscription, the?vSphere+?subscription is applied automatically to all?ESXi?hosts associated with that cluster.
Caution to be followed:
It is not recommended to connect vCenter to vSAN+ subscription which is already having few clusters with vSAN perpetual license keys, and you want to continue with it. In this case vSAN+ subscription will be applied on all the vSAN clusters and result in unexpected extra cost.
