VSM or ToC for Unstable Process Chains

VSM or ToC for Unstable Process Chains

Many manufacturing companies face unstable process chains, especially in the early days after transitioning from New Product Development (NPD) to Production Operations. This instability often comes from incomplete manufacturing engineering during the NPD phase—a challenge we tackled at Bosch decades ago. We built a robust NPD process with strong Preventive Quality Assurance methods. I was personally involved in developing global manufacturing technologies to ensure that even new processes were stable right from the Start of Production (SoP).

Sadly, even today, many companies still hand over partially or poorly engineered processes to Production Operations in their drive for growth. This week, I’ll focus on which fundamental approach is better suited for gaining control over these unstable process chains and getting things back on track, more as a quick fix, before fundamentally improving the NPD effectiveness....more .

Clear distinction between the power of VSM as a tool to identify and eliminate waste in the production process and Theory of constraints proposed by Goldratt consultants. The article clearly brings out the merits and demerits of biih h
