VS28: Stop Dumping on Sales(especially if you've never sold, dude!)
The game of Selling has for sure changed over the past few years. And with change comes opportunity. With change comes a shift in the marketplace. With change comes new winners and new losers. With change also comes more armchair quarterbacks, backseat drivers, second guessers and pseudo experts, blathering on about what needs to be done. "Handle objections", "Find a problem", "Be Empathetic", "social selling, man" "book em, Danno", "close this!".
I have been in or consulted with all too many organizations that find it fashionable to dump on 'stupid' sales people. And I have heard things like, "We need to make it easy enough for a sales rep to use" is another good one.
So, listen up. If you never picked up a phone and dialed a complete stranger with the express purpose of getting them interested in what you do....if you haven't walked into a room full of maniacs, talking over you, walking out to take a call...if you haven't tied your and your family's basic needs and survival to how well you sell......if you haven't been rejected by a buyer, either overtly through a hang up or a door slammed in your face or though the famous 'ghosting' process......
...if you haven't needed a deal to happen at the end of a quarter.....then back the **$$$### off. Sales really is king. You either make it or you don't. No grey areas. No funny math. Just pure unfiltered results. No partial credit.

10 个月Dan Sixsmith I feel your pain! Amazing how good people who've never done it can be! Especially when they're handing out advice.

10 个月Dan, early in my career I heard that 'nothing happens until something is sold'. I did not realize it at the time, but that is a profound truth.
