The new hub will improve the VR industry’s profitability and sustainability by linking the content developers, the hardware suppliers, the distributors and the audience on a global scale
Paris, August 31, 2017 – VR news and content distribution platform VRrOOm today announced the launch of a syndication program called Speedr, in the company’s most radical effort to make quality VR experiences accessible and affordable for a broader audience worldwide.
Louis Cacciuttolo, founder and CEO of VRrOOm, explained the background and objectives of the new scheme: “Speedr is meant to accelerate the growth of the VR entertainment market by bridging the numerous gaps existing between VR content producers / developers, distributors, technology or equipment suppliers, and the audience. We believe that physical outlets providing quality VR experiences are the key to unlock the market and we want to help our Location Based Experience (LBE) partners succeed.”
Louis said: “VR is taking too long, and Speedr is born to make it happen faster. Industry professionals are suffering but few concrete steps are taken to tackle the immediate causes of the issue. Speedr is like a spider building a net to link all VR entertainment industry actors together, in order to attract a larger audience with better offers across a stronger and wider platform, as soon as possible.”
The VR entertainment and gaming industry is currently lacking what is commonly described as the “killer app”, a VR experience powerful enough to unlock the market, like Avatar did for 3D movies and the digital cinema industry. The fragmentation of the VR experience outlets is the reason why the major studios are reluctant to invest more than marketing budget in VR content production, as they’re not sure how to monetize the content without an organized distribution network. On the other hand, VR equipment is still too expensive for most consumers. Besides, LBE operators struggle to find quality content: renewing the programmed content on a regular basis is a real challenge, and they struggle to find a sustainable business model.
Speedr aims at syndicating independent VR location-based experience centres (LBEs) in hopes to kill many birds with one stone; Louis Cacciuttolo emphasizes that global scale is a key factor of success: “We already have identified, screened and started enrolling more than 500 VR centres across 5 continents, including Asia and especially China, which is the largest market for VR and where VRrOOm has a strong network of high profile entertainment industry partners. We know that a worldwide syndicated program of VR centres like Speedr will give our partners the ROI guarantee they need to make some decisions that will benefit the entire industry. Speedr will encourage studios and developers to invest and produce more content; meanwhile, we will gather precious data to help our partners analyse the market and finetune their business strategies.”
Speedr is meant to allow LBE operators enjoy privileged distribution terms and broadcasting windows, and to offer equipment and tech suppliers a wider base to launch their new products. The hub will ultimately benefit the general audience, which will enjoy better quality experiences, renewed at a higher frequency, in an improved environment, and at lower prices, which will allow the VR industry players to take less risks while being able to expand their businesses on a larger scale.
Louis said: “VRrOOm is the only media curating general news and content about VR and AR in three major languages, English, Chinese and French. Our audience has grown strong and steady since we launched a year ago, with users evenly spread throughout the world. We are celebrating our first anniversary with the launch of Speedr, and because VRrOOm can provide us with a large yet targeted audience, we are in an ideal position to kickstart this program and provide our partners with a unique service of qualitative information, promotion, and implementation. Based on the positive feedback we have received from the professionals, we are confident Speedr will become an essential component of the VR ecosystem and contribute to the industry growth; everybody will win at this game.”
