VPA CEO Update - February 2022

VPA CEO Update - February 2022

The VPA has had a great start to the new year with the Ministerial approval and gazettal of three PSPs from our Fast Track program designed to support Victoria’s economic recovery. We remain focused on delivering real world results that see the building of brand new communities commenced and all that flows from that activity.

Melbourne will be home to three new precincts following the approval of plans for new homes, jobs and services in Melbourne’s north and east.

Plans for Craigieburn West and Shenstone Park to the north and Lilydale Quarry to the east have been gazetted, paving the way for more than 15,000 new homes and more than 6,000 new jobs for our growing city.

The plans, which we developed in consultation with the community and local councils, outline how the three precincts will provide new homes, jobs, services and infrastructure for outer Melbourne.

Craigieburn West

Craigieburn West will feature a series of walkable new residential neighbourhoods supported by a new local town centre, schools and community hubs. The new precinct will celebrate the local heritage and landscape with generous green open spaces and conservation reserves, completing a network of green links across the Craigieburn area.

Shenstone Park

Shenstone Park will become a residential and employment precinct accommodating more than 4,300 local jobs. Serviced by Donnybrook Station, the precinct will provide critical new homes, employment opportunities and community services for Melbourne’s North Growth Corridor.

Lilydale Quarry

The former Lilydale Quarry site will be redeveloped into a walkable and sustainable new neighbourhood that celebrates both its Wurundjeri and industrial heritage. Surrounded by existing schools, shops and services, the site will complete the missing piece of Lilydale and provide new homes and jobs for Melbourne’s east.

The approval of these three plans is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to provide the homes and jobs needed to support a growing Melbourne.

The plans include Development Contributions Plans (DCPs) and formal agreements (Section 173 agreements) that fund key infrastructure to support the future communities.?

The plans require developers to make contributions towards the cost of local infrastructure items such as key roads, community facilities, drainage infrastructure and parks. They will ensure the infrastructure needed to support new communities can be provided as the communities grow.

The VPA is looking forward to a big year of delivery, ensuring we support economic recovery and deliver projects that enable the development of new communities where demand is as strong as it has ever been.

We look forward to working closely with all our partners to achieve this in 2022.
