VP Concepts becomes.. Global VP Solutions!

VP Concepts becomes.. Global VP Solutions!

Navigating this rapidly changing space is a difficult task for anyone, let alone for those primarily focused on creating and delivering world class film and TV. You’ve got enough to worry about without keeping across the nuances of Virtual Production as it evolves.?

While the VP sector is growing in both importance and capability, it is far from optimised. Capabilities and experience vary wildly from team to team, as do the components and configurations employed from site to site. There's no consistency to the terminology, policies, processes and pipelines you'll find out there either.?

If you choose a rental volume, you’ll incur large setup costs before a frame is captured, and technical issues or inexperience that comes with something temporary commonly lead to mistrust and costly delays. On the other hand, while permanent standing volumes more often boast consistent, well drilled operators, they generally don’t have much flexibility in how they’re hired, meaning you’re often paying for more than you need, in a shape that’s not perfect, often in a studio or location that’s inconvenient. Making the right choices isn’t easy, no matter what your budget level.

But imagine being able to hand all of that over - so that someone else can do all of that legwork on the facilities, reputations, rates, incentives and configurations found all over the world. They can also keep on top of best practice and help you understand the role VP can play in your specific circumstances, meaning you can pitch your project with greater clarity and authority on how you’ll actually deliver. And they can guide you through the different workflows and timelines necessary, meaning you’re prepared getting the best out of the potential.

But there’s another benefit of this model, too. Currently most discussions around VP utilisation happen project to project.

But what if all these disparate projects, whether related by studio or production company or not, were able to negotiate as a group, by region, operator or rental group? They could leverage better deals, maximise incentives and R&D rebates, and share the expensive setup and packdown costs associated with pop up volumes.

When we started talking about this service, another thing became clear, too. Most studios or major productions looking to utilise VP around the world would also need parallel assistance navigating the ever-changing incentives landscape. Deciding where you spend your money is a critical and complex question to answer, if you’re trying to maximise every dollar you spend. So that’s why I’ve now teamed up with my friend and colleague Brian OLeary within GVPS, too. Brian is an expert in tax and incentives law, after more that two decades experience at NBCUniversal as the SVP of Tax Counsel. He has a wealth of international and domestic experience within the entertainment industry in tax and incentives planning, management, process improvement, and advocacy before government authorities. Plus, he’s a big advocate for Virtual Production growth and education, too.

On top of Brian’s experience, Global VP Solutions also has the benefit of advice and support from the legendary John Corser , currently SVP of Production and Production Technology with NBCUniversal. His quarter of a century at the pinnacle of international production, combined with his lifelong passion for technology, has given him a valuable perspective on the opportunities that lie ahead through production innovation, as well the changes needed to realise them.? He'll kindly guide GVPS' growth and approach.

And alongside that expertise, we have many other talented people in the Virtual Production space that will be able to help out our clients, too.

As a team, Global VP Solutions will help studios and independent producers to find, negotiate and cost effectively utilise the most competitive incentives and production technologies around the world; bringing creativity to life more efficiently than ever before. And it will also continue to help in all of those areas VP Concepts used to, like advocacy, education, investments, immersive technology consulting, partnerships and business development.

The future is exciting. As Virtual Production improves and evolves, and transmedia storytelling, next generation immersive devices and AI continue to create new pathways to audiences' hearts and minds, we're excited to help creatives all over the world to produce something special for them.
