Voti Detection Use Case - Hamilton County Courts
Introduction
Every day, roughly one thousand people pass through the security checkpoint at the Hamilton County Courts Building in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Department of Court Services has the mandate to inspect all who enter the courthouse in order to intercept any potentially dangerous or illegal threats – such as weapons, explosives, narcotics, and contraband, which threaten the operations
of the Court. Conventional X-Ray remains the most non-invasive, effective checkpoint screening to balance a high throughput environment with a high safety protocol.?
The Challenge
The checkpoint X-Ray system currently in place was less than 5 years old but was often experiencing technical or mechanical problems. “X-Ray Scanners being out-of-order poses a serious security threat to our court operations,” said Eric Wilson, the Court Support Services Supervisor. When Mr. Wilson and his team found constant difficulty in obtaining service on malfunctioning machines, they decided to look for a new solution to ensure a safe and orderly flow of traffic into the Court.?
“Customer service is extremely important to us, and remote login for diagnostics and repair was a key selling feature.”?

The Solution
The Support Services Team determined that the VOTI XR3D X-Ray Scanners were the best option to meet their security needs. Working closely with local VOTI partners, Court Services selected the XR3D-60s short conveyor system to replace their damaged fleet.
Courthouses are often subject to space constraints in their front entrances: the XR3D-60s is a compact, short conveyor system that balances a 615 by 425mm aperture with a reduced footprint and if needed, can be easily moved. It employs an intuitive full touchscreen display with a crisp, high-resolution image for easy training and heightened operator performance.
VOTI’s commitment to service served as a key criterion in the decision-making process. As the first line of defense, VOTI’s Remote Troubleshooting capabilities would be employed to remotely troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair any technical problem. If issues persist, VOTI guaranteed a 48-hour response time in the case where servicing was required.?
The Result
By introducing advanced 3D Perspective technology, Hamilton County Courts are better suited to address today’s modern security challenges. The remote troubleshooting capabilities and response service team ensure all scanners are up-and-running when needed during Court Operations. VOTI’s latest generation X-Ray screening has reduced the need to do manual searches, increased the safe and orderly flow of personnel and civilians, and has increased the overall efficiency of operations.?
