Vote in KDnuggets Poll: What software you used for Analytics, Data Mining, Data Science projects?

The landscape of data science is rapidly changing, with many new tools appearing (and some old ones disappearing). We cannot include all the tools, but tried to include the most popular tools and keep the number of choices below 100. The tools are organized in 4 sections, with entries alphabetical in each section.

  • Data Analysis and Data Science platforms,
  • Languages (including R and Python),
  • Deep Learning tools,
  • Big Data Tools (Hadoop/Spark/etc).

Combining these different types of tools in one poll is messy, but it allows interesting analysis afterwards, like Which Big Data, Data Mining, and Data Science Tools go together?

Since we wanted to include languages like Python and Java and tools like Excel and SQL which are not exclusively Data Science tools, we changed the poll question to

What software you used for Analytics, Data Mining, Data Science, Machine Learning projects in the past 12 months?

This is the 17th such KDnuggets Poll, and it usually attracts a lot of attention and sometimes controversy due to excessive voting by some vendors. It is fine to for vendors to ask their users to vote, but it is not OK to set up bot voting or direct link to vote for just one tool.
To reduce excessive and bot voting, this poll asks for an email verification.

Whatever other irregular voting we find, will be removed from final results, and we will publish the anonymized voter logs after the poll, so that anyone can analyze them.

Viewing the results, I can only wonder how long we'll continue to see Excel maintain its place in the top 5. It suggests that software vendors have a long way to go, still, to close the gap currently filled using whatever tools are available -- as everyone has a copy of Excel already installed. But I will say that gap is closing fast.

Interesting that MS Power BI is not included (in the table/chart above).
