Brothers and sisters, we stand at the precipice of a defining moment in American history. The fierce urgency of now is upon us, and the decisions we make in the coming days will ripple through generations. To those who ask, "What have the Democrats done for Black people?" I say, take a moment to reflect not just on policies, but on the fundamental values of equality, decency, and justice. These values have been fought for, inch by inch, and safeguarded by those who understood the weight of the vote. The power to bend history toward justice is in our hands, and this election is no different.
Let us be clear—there are those who, blinded by rhetoric, dismiss the gravity of this moment. Young Black voters who are swayed by empty promises or who fail to see the very real dangers of a second Trump presidency, I urge you to look closer. Look at the history. Trump was not just indifferent to our progress; he actively sought to reverse it. From stoking racial divisions to dismantling protections for marginalized communities, his actions were not a matter of politics—they were an attack on our dignity, our rights, and our future.
Trump's policies were a storm against the very foundations of the Republic. And to my brothers and sisters who feel disillusioned, who think that their vote won't make a difference—let me remind you of the power you hold. Your ancestors marched, bled, and died to secure that right. Do not let apathy be the thief that robs us of what we have gained. Our future is inextricably tied to our willingness to engage, to vote, and to fight for what is right.
Remember Churchill's famous words about America: “Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing—after they’ve tried everything else.” But we do not have the luxury to try everything else. We must act now. As Benjamin Franklin famously warned, "A Republic, if you can keep it." Well, brothers and sisters, the Republic is ours to lose if we do not rise to this occasion.
If Trump wins on November 5, 2024, we will see the erosion of civil rights accelerate, the dismantling of social justice movements, and the unrelenting rise of authoritarianism. We will watch as the gains we’ve fought for are stripped away in the name of power and privilege. The hard-won victories for affordable healthcare, criminal justice reform, voting rights, and economic equality will be suffocated under the weight of greed and bigotry.
This election is not just about a man or a party—it is about the soul of America. The consequences of inaction are dire. Will we allow ourselves to be pushed back into the shadows, or will we stand and be counted? This is our moment. We must register, vote, and vote for Harris—because when the weight of history is upon us, we must rise with the strength of those who came before us and the hope of those yet to come.
Let this be our rallying cry: We will not be silent. We will not be idle. We will vote, and we will vote for the future, for our children, for our people, and for the preservation of a Republic that reflects the values of justice and equality.
The fierce urgency of now calls us to action. Let’s answer that call. Let’s vote.
