Volvo CE Breaks Ground on $6.4M Technology and Training Centre
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) broke ground on April 6 for a new $6.4 million Future-focused Technology and technician training center at the company’s North American headquarters in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
The facility is said to open earlier the following year, 2023. The facility is said to host both in-person and online virtual training courses for new and willing heavy equipment technicians.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, as a demonstration, they used an ECR25 and an electric compact excavator with zero emissions to help them with digging. These types of equipment are going to be used soon on construction job sites, farms, and many other applications.
This world-class training center will be a 40-acre expansion of the Volvo CE Customer Centre, with additional machine bays, classrooms, and a virtual lab equipped with video, augmented reality, and other technologies.
More than any other OEM, Volvo has pushed aggressively for energy and environmental solutions for its equipment and company, and the new training facility will reflect this.
Technical training on equipment, technology, and services, such as machine control systems and modern telematics, will be available mainly to Volvo dealer technicians. In addition, electric machinery, automation, and networking will also be covered in training and demonstrations.
With the addition of supporting Volvo CE customers and dealers, the training center has a total investment of $6.4 million in the Pennsylvania economy.
