Volunteerism and giving are key to a great life!
As I’m doing my morning ritual of going to Starbucks for our dose of caffeine, I’m listening to NPR and hear some rather great news. Volunteerism is the key to a healthier life, both mentally and emotionally. This was actually a show talking about New Year Resolutions to consider. Clearly, most resolutions don’t last more than for a few days. Yet, the simple truth, which is very Biblical, it’s better to give than receive.
As I reflect on my last year what stands out, are hundreds of friends or friends of friends, who have chosen to step up, give and not expect anything in return. As we look back over the year, I’m humbled to see this incredible principle lived out! The impact of a young person to be loved in circumstances that aren’t the best, makes their lives ‘rock’!
What excites me is to see many college students over the years, thanks to ASU and GCU, that purposely choose to be involved. What’s impressive is to see a young adult choose to invest their lives in a kid or teen’s life that come out of not the best situation. Friends helping our homeless friends in the downtown.
As one-year closes and another starts back up, yes, I’m getting really old, the simple truth is that volunteerism is one of the most amazing aspects of what makes life so exciting, enriching and special.
